My baby has a cold and is finding it hard to feed.
We had an aspirator but I have heard that it has side effects.
Do you know if there are any effective ways of clearing the nose especially before a feed?

Hi,
Saline down the nosrtil about 1 ml warmed should do it(Pick out any hard bits you can get your hands on) You can also try inhalations like steam up the bathroom with a hot shower and mist around a little Eukalyptus oil(?sp)

You can get Fess which is a saline nasal spray. A couple of squirts up the nose does the trick.

The infant Fess comes with an aspirator, don't know why it would be considered dangerous.

If the aspirator has a soft tip on it, like the fess ones, it should be okay - I used them on DD when she was about 3 months old when she had a cold, it never hurt her.

I have a steam vaporisor for DD's room when she has a cold these days. I swear by them, but I've heard other people say that they just grew mould in their bubba's rooms!

i'm with Goosie, saline drops are much more gentle than a spray but the spray works well too.

hope he gets better soon
