Does anyone have any ideas or advice for this one.
Ds2 is 6 weeks old he is really gassy on breast milk and very unhappy on dairy based formula (i was giving him one feed a day on this for about 4 days until i stopped it) so the pead gave him neocate he has had 2 bottles of this - one today and one yesterday and he puked both times.
Yesterday it was as soon as it hit his tummy and today about an hour later this was this afternoon and he has been unsettled for the rest of the afternoon. He only fell asleep an hour ago after screaming in pain when he let of wind. I gave him 2 breast feeds this evening one at 5.30 the other at 7 so the screaming wasn't because he was hungery.
I feel so sorry for the little guy.
Also is it normal to puke on neocate, I thought it was meant to be really gentle on the tummy. Any ideas??

Hey Tia,

MY DD is on Neocate and it was tough getting her onto it at first but she is doing a lot better now- much less gassy and windy than she was and MPI is getting better too I think...

She puked a bit when I first got her on Neocate and definitely made me rethink my decision to try it, but my GI Specialist would have none of that! After a few days it improved.

Now- I did try Pepti Junior before the Neocate and as soon as it hit her stomach she would projectile the entire feed back up! Everytime!!! So I told my Paed it wasn't working and thats when we started the Neocate.

The other thing might be that you don't have him consistently 100% on the formula yet- and once his bowels and tummy have time to heal is probably when you'll start noticing a good difference... Maybe increasing the feeds with Neocate - like a half EBM and half Neocate for more of his feeds gradually increasing to 100% Neocate would work???

Another elemental formula might work for you if the Neocate is really not working- what about Elecare? Will let you know if I have any other ideas!

How is your LO doing today with it?

Hi thanks for your reply,
It turns out ds2 has silent reflux and has been put on zantac which he hates but is working so far. He has slept hich is a blessing for all of us therefore worth doing.
He seems to be doing ok on the neocate, it has just taken a few days, I am now thinking of increasing his feeds on it to 2 a day as he is happier after a bottle then he is after a bf and is more settled through the feed. During a bf he whimpers and squirms I don't think it is pleasant for him.
Im hoping this is the answer for us all.
