Hi

I have been lucky to get a generous offer from my mum to pay for me and the kids to go to New Zealand for christmas to meet their cousins and the rest of our family.

But I know I have to get a passport for them each.

I am pretty sure I need their fathers signatures. The thing is I don't think I am going to be able to. The father of my 6 six year old son has just told me he doesnt want to see him anymore and my son is going to counselling due to emotional abuse from him and my daughter's ( 6mnths) father will not talk to me or see her because he is upset about having to pay $30 a fortnight maintenance.

Does anyone know how I get around this??

Sometimes I find life puts up so many obstacles its hard to stay positive!!!

Thankyou to anyone who can offer advice.

Me - Angela 33
dd - Gabriella 6mnths
ds - Tyler 6 years.

I had the same problem a few years ago. I was going on a work trip to Fiji and wanted to take my (then) 4 year old DD.

The only difference with my situation is that I have no idea where my ex-husband is, how to get in contact with him and he hasn't seen my DD since she was 3 months old.

As the trip was for a set duration (and they could see I wasn't taking her o/s to live), I applied to passports office with stat dec's advising the situation and they reviewed the documents and issued a passport - it took just over 7 months, but it was issued without her fathers signature.

So give the passports office and call and have a chat, you'll find that they're very helpful.

Im so glad you posted this post because i know for a fact that my ex will never ever in a million years sign for the kids to have a passport. I hope to one day take them to New Zealand, so after reading Nics reply it made my day.

Hi there

there is a form you can download from the passport office, which is basically a form saying that you want to get a passport for the kid with out the other parents consent. on there you need to detail as to why the other parent isn't signing (i just saifd that i am a single mum and that my sons father doesn't have any contact with him) and you send this form in with your application

http://www.passports.gov.au

If you wish to make an application for a waiver of consent you must complete a statement on a form B9 and provide details of the circumstances (Download Form B9). The application will be referred to an Approved Senior Officer for decision.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more info
