Hi Girls,

Can anyone offer advice on bub's first haircut? I tried cutting it myself (just the fringe) as it was in his face & it looks terribly crooked:( Has anyone taken their bub to get a proper haircut & how did u get them to sit still? Also how much do they charge? My son is 14mths old & has a lot of hair

Thanks

There's a place here in Adelaide that has a car on a stool type thing for doing kids haircuts....it's great!

My advice is, go to a place that has done a child's hair before (they probably all have lol, i don't know, but the last thing you want is someone who has never done a kid before). I usually give my son something to eat while having his hair cut....it gets a bit hairy, but if he doesn't have it, he keeps putting his hands up to his hair lol.

I agree, take him somewhere that has a hairdresser that is used to doing babies hair - they have to get in there and do it QUICKLY.
We took Emily to a hairdresser for hers around her first birthday (she also has LOTS of hair!). She hated it and screamed her head off - we got great photos  (take a camera!)
They were very quick though so it was all over before she knew it. They charged about $10 I think. Some places though (usually smaller salons) have a policy of doing their first cut for free. We just didn't have time to hunt around for one.

As a hairdresser... we are very used to wrigglers!!! :)

Take him to a salon. I find sitting bubs on Mum's lap is best & giving them a small mirror to look into aswell helps.

Good luck!! :D

DS's first haircut was free of charge.

He was such a doll, he sat on the chair and we told him to look at the mirror and that was it. The lady doing the haircut was able to do it quickly. Since then, we've had absolutely no worries, he likes to watch them cut his hair!

Sometimes we do treat him afterwards with a donut! :D

We had our little guys head shaved (number 4) when he was 6 months old. Quick and easy at the hairdressers. Also, shaving the head makes the hair grow back thicker. Don't know if you might think its too cold to do that though at the mo, or you could just put a hat on when you go out if its too cold.

Hi Kristy,

There is a kid's hair salon at Mudgeeraba - Billy Lids Hairdressing, 20 Railway Street, Mudgeeraba, ph 5559 2885. Sorry, I can't remember how much it cost, but it wasn't that much.

I also found that the time it takes DS to eat a Heinz baby muesli bar = amount of time needed to do the cut.

Good Luck. :)
