View Full Version : Clomid Monitoring
Hi everyone well I'm new to fertility treatment and in our long journey to have our second baby I've been put on Clomid and progesterone pessaries after Ovulation to try to alleviate my LPD. I was a bit overwhelmed by all the information when I was at the FS and all I can remember is that I am to start on 25mg for days 2-6 and to get a blood test on CD10. She said she'd call me then to let me know what to do next. I guess what I want to know is (or can't remember) is what are they measuring at this blood test and why usually happens next?

Hi Pigglet :)
What happens after that depends on your FS and what your situation is. There is a clomid support thread in the fertility treatment list and there are a lot of ladies in there with a lot of experience in different types of clomid support (I only had clomid and only to make me ovulate and would only blood test at CD21 to check I had ovulated so my knowledge in relation to your case is limited). I am sure you will find plenty of ladies who have been through or know what you are going through :)
Good luck!

 Pigglet - def join the Clomid Support thread....ladies are LOVELY in there!
As for the blood tests they are likely to test your Oestrogen levels (E2), progesterone (P4) and LH levels. The E2 and LH should steadily rise up to ovulation with the P4 sticking at around 1.5 / 2.
As the E2 starts to surge you are approaching ovulation, the LH will start picking up too. The E2 starts to just drop off as the LH surges and you ovulate.
You should find they then blood test you around 7 days after ovulation to check that your P4 has risen which indicates that you had successful ovulation (although is no indicator at all of pregnancy). A lot of people refer to this as Day 21 blood test but that is only if your cycle is textbook - I found I was ovulating around Day 19 with Clomid so it was actually a Day 26 blood test...as long as it's around 7 days after o it's all good!!!
With my FS, I had bloods from around Day9 and then based on the results they would tell me when to come back, usually either 1 or 2 days later and it would generally be daily in the last few days up to ovulation. Mind you - it may be different depending on whether you are doing Ovulation induction. If they are just monitoring your ovulation then you may not have as many blood tests but for me because I was triggering ovulation they needed to keep a real close eye on my levels to catch it at the right time
Hope this helps and Clomid is your success story! There are MANY clomid babies around these parts!!!

Pigglet - Welcome to the world of Clomid....
Well Lucy Kiahs mum and I are all pregnant with Clomid babies so hopefully that will give you some hope!
For me... My doc persribed 50mg of Clomid from day 1-10 (weird I know and I have never heard of it before) on day 13.I got bloods to see how my levels were coming along. From those results the doc could see whether or not I was gearing up for O. If I was then I would pop in the next day for an ultrasound scan (internal) and my FS would see how big the follicle is. She would also check the lining to see if it was thick.
If all was good, I was given a pregnyl injection to make me ovulate within 36 hours and we would either BD over the coming days or do IUI the next day....
For some women they do not recieve this level of monitoring and if you are pretty good at ovulating by yourself then they tend to let you go by yourself and just confirm O after the fact.
Hope you can go and join the clomid thread. There are alot of lovely ladies in there and still lots of lovely ladies that have gotten pregnant through Clomid and pop in to say hi....
Ahhh it all makes sense now! Thanks so much girls. I just hate blood tests....looks like a better get used to them though :)
