DD is almost 17 months old and just this week we have gone to only 1 feed a day (before bed at night). Previous to this she was on about 2 a day, she had another feed before her afternoon nap but I have finally got her to take some Toddler Formula (she wasnt interested in it or cows milk before) which has taken her attention off the breast, even when she didnt want the formula she rarely asked for 'boob' and never was upset about it not being offered. I know she doesnt need the formula or cows milk (she has allot of calcium in her diet) but I would still like her to have it.

So I am now only feeding once a day and although am keen to totally wean her I am feeling really hesitant to take that next step, I guess I know there is no going back once I stop and I am of course so used to breastfeeding her that its like our relationship will be different somehow.

Has anyone ever felt like this? I mean I am ready to wean her, I really dont think she is getting any benefit from me, I certainly dont make much milk and am surprised she doesnt get frustrated with them, although she feeds for comfort really rather than the need to fill her belly. I just dont know how I can get over this feeling and just make that decision to stop completely and for ever.
I cant really talk to family about it as my Mum and Sister BF for only 3 months with their kids (i wasnt BF at all) and my MIL had to FF her first then BF DH until he self weaned at 10 months. None of my close friends have kids.

thanks.

Breastfeeding a toddler certainly does have benefits.

In the second year (12-23 months), 448 mL of breastmilk provides:
· 29% of energy requirements
· 43% of protein requirements
· 36% of calcium requirements
· 75% of vitamin A requirements
· 76% of folate requirements
· 94% of vitamin B12 requirements
· 60% of vitamin C requirements
She would still be getting milk.

It sounds like you’re unsure if you’re ready to wean.
