i am breast feeding my son and need some advice .....

i have a great supply in one boob (125mls expressed) and only 30 - 50 mls in the other. i am looking for ways to increase the 'lacking' boob. he is taking both boobs and i always offer the 'lacking' boob first .....

i am afraid of ending up with one huge boob and a way smaller one once i finish breast feeding in the future

help?

Hi

I have no real advice, other than to perhaps use something warm on the 'lacking' boob, maybe while you are feeding from the other side.

I don't know if it will work though, just a thought.

I do hope someone that has had the same situation comes along soon to offer you sone real suggestions.
AFAIK, though, it is not uncommon for one boob to be a bit 'less' and some women only feed from one, without too much hassle.

Best of luck,

how much you can express from a breast is not always a reliable indicator of how much milk it is producing. babies are way better at milking a breast than we are at expressing, if your baby is feeding ok from that side, attaching well, and you are noticing a letdown, (either from feeling, seeing milk or seeing his sucking change) then it may all be fine.

when you wean, weaning gradually can help your breasts readjust and may minimise any lopsidedness.

have you considered contacting a breastfeeding counsellor? i've always found them really helpful.

thanks for the advice so far. i feel a let down occasionally in that boob. he just doesnt see to get much from there and therefore detaches himself. he is on for about 2 minutes. that boob is aslo smaller am=nd softer in the monings too. the 'good' boob is much bigger and way fuller.

i will also check with the lactation consultant.

I had a similar sort of issue. My left breast always had less milk than my right for some reason! I successfully breastfed my DD for nearly 10 months.
Just stick with it and definately speak to a lactation consultant - they're brilliant!

My son is 1 in a couple of weeks, and I have been feeding him out of only one boob for about 4-5 months!!
For some reason, he was just selective! The first time that it almost dried up, I boosted it by letting bub suckle most of the day and night for a couple of days... but then a week or so later, it went down again and I couldn't boost the supply.

So, I feed out of one boob only... and yes, it is double the size of the other... which makes me a bit self conscious in public, but I am sure that once I stop feeding they will even out again. :D

Its normal.

Just like one hand/foot/breast is bigger than the other, its normal for one breast to produce more than the other.

Still feed the normal way - ie start on the breast you finished your last feed on, unless you've only fed from one side in which case feed from the other - your breasts will make the right amount of milk for your baby.

And don't worry about lopsided breasts either, because
1) its normal for one breast to be bigger than the other anyway, and
2) plenty of women have fed from just the one side, and look fine after the baby has weaned.
