the title says it all my almost 4 yr old is allergic to coconut we think well it causes what started as blisters and then goes to full on looking burns from his lips all the way in his mouth and tongue and down his throat that was from eating desicated coconut, if he eats somthing like banana chips cooked in coconut oil he gets little blisters think hand foot and mouth looking in his mouth, just wondering if this is a common reaction as his school hasn't seen anything like it before ! the teacher let him eat banana chips ughhhh annoyed ot say the least, he won't eat coconut cause he knows what it looks like but anything cooked in oil well just can't see it so I can't blame him for it.
He also has a milk intollereance well at least that is what we think serious diahrea if he drinks milk but can eat cheese and have limited yogurt with no issues so don't know for sure as we havn't had any testing but wondeing where I should go from here? talk him to get allergy tested? as somthing else cause him to have a reaction similar the other day but we don't know what so I wonder what else there could be ?
Also my dd has gut issues when it comes to milk as well so definatly alking to her pead soon about that as she has other issues as well.
you need these two books:
Sue Dengate "The fail safe cook book" and "fed up with food additives". Friendly foods is also good. i'd recommend doing the elimination diet to find out what other foods might be doing this.

I would go to your GP for a referral for allergy testing, my GP has sent me to have them (referred me)
I dont have an allergy to coconut but i can say i get the same symptoms you mention with shell fish (prawns, crab etc) and it is getting progressively worse with age. I have been told also that sometimes a certain symptom is a warning and the next time it can be life threatening which also seems the case with me as i accidentally ate a prawn at a wedding a few weeks back and resulted in a fast ambulance trip for me and a night under observation. So i would look into allergy testing ASAP.
As for the milk/yogurt/cheese thing......i have that so do my kids.
I can not drink more than a dash of milk in my coffee or i get the wickedest of stomach cramps and spend the next few hours in the toilet, but i can eat cheese (not huge amounts but a few slices) and i can eat yogurt, it is because the process that cheese and yogurt go through change some of the proteins in the dairy, making it edible to those of us with intolerances hence some lactose intolerant kids being fine with formula but not cows milk. My Pead has had me build up there dairy products slowly over time and my DD who was very bad as a baby can tolerate a small yogurt or a slice of cheese per day and a small amount of watered down milk for her cereal. She is 6 and we have worked up to this over 4 years! LOL Me, well i cant even have half a cappuccino or i am sorry for hours, so i have no hope!
Good Luck, but my advice is go to the GP for referrals.

thanks for the quick replys, I guess it is off to the gp for us tomorrow yahhh like I don't spend enought time there already with dd but never mind.
wocket I'm allergic to preservatives especially the ones in wine damn it LOL but I still indulge every now and then:o so we have a house that is pretty much free from additives but I think I will try the library to check out those books for a looky thanks.
misskelz77 I have purposly avoided coconut since and your right it has gotten worse as he was able to eat things like anzac biscuits before but I wouldn't even try them now and as for coconut oil he used to have no problems but now not even a bite before a reaction so yup better get it checked out quick smart before it gets worse.
thanks again
