View Full Version : pregnant and breastfeed?
Hi,
Quick question -
Can you/should you breastfeed when your pregnant?
Curious.
I did until I was about 11 weeks pregnant. There is normally no medical reason not to - some people breastfeed through their pregnancy and then feed both the toddler and the new baby. I just chose to stop because I needed all my energy at that point and my toddler was over 12 months and ready to stop herself.
Having said that I have heard one story of a woman who had to stop because the breastfeeding caused her uterus to contract which was endangering her pregnancy.

I breastfed my son up until my twins were born but weaned him shortly afterwards. One of my twins - Tahlee weaned a month before I gave birth to Adele. Its totally up to and your energy levels but im all for tandum and extended breastfeeding :)
I'm 12 weeks preggo, and bf my 16 month old son.
I plan to keep feeding as I am low risk for pre-term labour, and hope to tandem feed, if it all works out that way.
I heard a story recently where a woman had to wean her toddler at 33 weeks as the uterine contractions she was experiencing every time she bf were endangering her pg.
She began feeding her child again when she got to 38 weeks, and so far so good!

i fed liam thru my entire pregnancy with ethan.even in early labour he had a feed.i did have ethan 6 weeks early but whether this was because of bf i'll never know.i went on to tandem feed til liam was 27 months.and ethan weaned himself around 16 months.i found it good when i was engorged as id let liam get on to relieve me then ethan would hop on straight after and my milk just flowed beautifully.the only downfall i had was from some small minded people who commented on me bf liam.each to their own i say.my dr said there was no reason why i couldnt and im glad i did.i have beautiful photos of both boys feeding together holding hands.and as its turned out i had twins after ethan and bf them so i was quite familiar with the workings of it all.

The only thing I have ever heard is that if there is ever a good time to wean a bub it is while you are pregnant because due to hormones the "flavour" of your milk may change so bub may wean themselves due to the change but obviously that is not every persons experience - I just heard it could happen!
