There have been a few cases of gastro last week at DD's school. I just had to pick her up as she vomited. I have my suspicions that she isn't sick at all though.

How does a child look and behave when they have gastro?

From memory, I always felt like death and looked it too. DD does not. She was in trouble last night and got sent to bed early and was very sulky this morning. In the past, she has vomited after working herself into a tizz, either though excitement or anger. I suspect that it may be this rather than gastro.

It can vary Chelle. My boys have had various bouts of Gastro over the school years.

Sometimes stuck in bed all day.
Other times will be quite happy sitting and playing then running to the loo to be sick.

Does she have a temp or anything else?

When my DD who is 7 gets gastro, she is pale, lethargic and normally has a fever. She is also very quiet, which is very out of character for her.

DS is usually very lethargic and pretty sick looking.

No temp, not lethargic, not pale, no nausea. You can see why I am suspicious, especially since she has vomited in the past when upset about something.

She is spending the day in bed, so we shall see just how sick she is

.. Well if she is sick than a good rest will do her the world of good.
If she is not sick, she wont pretend to be again any time soon:laughing:.

Both times DD1 has had it she hasn't shown any symptoms really. The first time she was in DD2's room playing when she just started vomiting everywhere. She kept vomiting in the bath for a few minutes, then was off her food the rest of the day but that was it. It was gastro though cause two days later I got a much worse case.

The second time she acted fine....we went out in the morning after she'd eaten a big breakfast and drank milk and then she got a bit stroppy at the end of our activity. I put it down to tiredness and then 10 minutes in to the car ride home she projectile vomited all through the car. I got home, got her cleaned up and the car before she vomited again. She lay up on the lounge for 10 minutes then told me she felt better and that was it for her. Was gastro that time too...DD2 started us off, DD1 got it next, then when the afternoon that DD1 vomtied through the car I got it and again, a far worse case, then DD2 started again that night and then DH got it two days later. worst week of our life but DD1 got off quite lightly!

I guess you'll know by the end of the day but don't rule it out completely just yet!

Won't rule it out :) But I am just going by previous experience of what she is like. I think the teachers thought I was a bit mean from the look on their faces when I picked her up and explained her history of vomiting. I know that I can make myself sick with I have a panic attack, so there si certainly a possibility that it could just be like the other times she has worked herself up into a tizz and thrown up.

Oh of course. DD1's best friend can vomit on cue. It's a charming party trick! Just thought I'd let you know that not all kids get really lethargic and run fevers with gastro. DD1 doesn't. They barely phase her at all (wish I was so lucky....I'm usually passed out on the toilet floor by the end and take a good couple of days to regain all my energy)

DH, DS and I all had gastro in January:( (within days of eachother).

DH - threw up so much he had to have an injection...very, very unwell (and he is usually the kind who bounces back quickly from most things).

Me - I had both ends and barely moved for 2 days (mind you was pg - doesn't help!)

DS - had a couple of chucks - in between was running around, happy as a lark and never went off his food. This was such a contrast to DH and I that we were flabbergasted. So you never can tell!!!!

Well, she hasn't thrown up since she did at school and has eaten a ton of food, so I think she is fine. Thanks everyone.
