I went with my DD when she was 5.5mths old, though they do use different techniques depending on the age of the baby.
They are very strict on routines and insist that while you are there you stick to the routine and if you want success you should carry on the routine at home....this worked well for my DD who seems to thrive on a routine.
The first two weeks after you finish at tresillan are the hardest and you really have to stick to their techniques.
Overall i found them to be a godsend for me and DD. They sorted out her sleeping and settling and its a nice break too cause you have your meals all cooked for you and everything you need is there.

We went to a similar family clinic here when DS was 6 months old and it was fabulous for us.

You might want to call them and have a chat before you go too far though, since most of these types of places are very big on controlled crying which I know you aren't a fan of.

Also I think you need to access them via your CHN (as in they need to refer you, so to speak), so just check that too.

Good luck! xx

Gah! If I had known things were that bad I would have told you about Pinky McKay's sleep seminar that was in Sydney in Jan :hugs:
Perhaps you could email the addy on the website and find out when she is in town next if you dont have any luck or dont decide to go on with tresillian methods

Hi Hon - I've only done a day stay at Belmore and you know DS is much younger so they pretty much have you going in every minute or staying with bub till calm and dozy. As pp's mention, I suspect their methods with older children are a bit more...umm...strict? If that's the right word, as by Raff's age. I'd call them at the Belmore clinic for a chat. The nurse I had was lovely though...so gentle.

I hear nothing good from tresillian unless you want to use strict routines, CC & formula feed

I don't agree with the above response, i went with DD when she was 8 months and i never experienced that at all. They were very supportive with brestfeeding and formula mothers. They help you with a routine and they show you how to help your baby sleep through the night. It doesn't happen there and then you have to take this process home with you and continue to use it to get the results just like anything.
I would give them a call and see if they can help you over the phone first. Then i think before you go to tresillian you have to have done a day stay somewhere.
There is usually about 5-6 weeks wait to get into Tresillian, but if there has been a cancellation they will ring you and get you in early.
They were a real life saver for me and i would really recommend them.

WOW!! Thats a bold statement!!!

Anyway, I didn't go to tresillian, but did go to Karitane as I could take MJ with me :)

It worked wonders for us :D:D The didn't say anything about strict routine, just do what works for you. They do controlled comforting so you can comfort in the room if thats what you're comfortable with. Oh & they said NOTHING about the breastfeeding other than how fantastic I was for doing it for 3.5yrs straight  I was giving the other residents advice :D

strict routines, formula and cc - I didn't experience anything like that. There were a couple down the hall from me with b/f struggles and an underweight, babybjorn addicted 8 week old and there was no suggestion of anything like that for them either.

At Belmore Tresillian my ECN reports to a woman called Lorraine Palmer - I had her come and do a day stay with me when DD was the same age DS is now. She was the one who pulled ME back and said, ok, that's enough now, get her up and let's have a play, relax and start again. I was also saying I'd see if I could b/f for four months and then see how I went and she very gently said it would be great if I could make it to 6 months (which I did - and beyond).

I'll also ask a g/f of mine whose had a stay with her son and two stays with her daughter and she's not one to let her kids cry either.

I am taking my daughter to Tresillian in Canterbury. the paper work was faxed on monday, and im ringing them tomorow morning to do an over-the-phone interview and booking our arrival date!!

I am really happy, confident and looking forward to our stay there, and i am hopeful that my story will be like everyone elses ive heard... a success story!! :)

I think having someone come to your home is a much better experience, I had been to sleep school but it was very stressful for me and my baby, at home they are in their own surroundings, people say they are expensive but if you ring around they have 2hr consults which arn't too bad, I co slept and bf my dd, and now she sleeps all night in her cot, no longer bf.

I went to Tresillian for breastfeeding. They do push breastfeeding and give mums priority for this.

There other ladies and their partners (be sure to take your partner) who were there for assistance with their restless bubs (all around 6 months). Some of them were a little distressed. I do believe they use controlled crying but I believe this is only on children that have reached a certain age (I am not sure what age that is). I think you can get a referral from your GP to get in there quicker.

There is also a Tresillian Hotline you can call for advice. 1800 637 357 www.tresillian.net (http://www.tresillian.net)

I did not enjoy my experience at all. I found it upsetting. Especially when the 200kg midwife spent a half day lecturing me about healthy eating because I skipped breakfast one morning to get there on time. You can always walk away if you are not happy with what is happening. Having your partner for support is definitely an advantage.

:yelclap: Well done. He must have heard about the bossy nurses at Tresillian and decided to stay away. Hope you get another night like that.

Good luck with the sleeping. whether you go to tresillian or go with the sleep specialist. I have actually used both for my DD, Tresillian at 5mths and then the sleep specialist in my home at 8mths old as the tresillian way wasn't working anymore. Since the in-house sleep specialist my DD has slept through everynight unless she is sick.

There is a thread my lilyloo about the in house sleep specialist you might want to read (we used the same one)
