Probably a stupid question but I can't find the answer anywhere !

I sterilise bottles, teats, etc, boil water and fill bottles for the day. Then I place the bottles in the fridge. When feed time comes, I microwave water until at correct temperature, then add formula powder, shake and am ready for feed. I find this much quicker and simpler than making up the formula, refrigerating and then re-heating in hot water.

My concern is that I shouldn't be doing it this way as absolutely no-one mentions this method !!?? Any thoughts ??

And thanks to those who support and understand bottle feeding - I have just given up breastfeeding after 9 weeks and was feeling extremely guilty (still do actually !) Reading everyone's thoughts helps heaps :)

Hi  Notice this is your first post - WELCOME TO BUBHUB!! I must warn you that this site is highly addictive, but it's great :D

As for the way you've been making up bottles, that's exactly what we do and we've been doing it that way since DS was born (Oct 05). My sister used to make up her bottles with the formula in them and then put them in the fridge but we just found it so much simpler to do it our way.

And don't feel guilty about not breast feeding. I could only bf for 3 weeks, but I do know the guilt you feel. Just be happy in the knowledge that's you're doing what's right for you and your bub - wouldn't it be better for you to be relaxed and bub getting a full tummy from a bottle, than you you being tense and bub picking up on that and screaming? The guilt does dissapate.

 You're doing a great job!

I don't think there is anything wrong with the method you are using. The bottles etc are sterilised, the water is boiled so there should be no problems for bubs.

I mean when you make a cup of coffee at the end of the day whether you add the coffee/milk before or after you add water it really doesn't make much difference so I think you are quite safe to continue with what you are doing.

I use to actually use the same method as you are doing. To begin with I followed the instructions on the tin to the letter and then I modified it. My DS is 3 next week and it certainly had no effect on him.

I was another unsuccessful BF so don't feel bad about it. There are alot of FF bubs on this site so you will get plenty of support.

I made all my bottles up that way too. If I did make them up then store in the fridge, I nuked them in the microwave rather than a cup of hot water.

Doing the water ting and adding powder later is easier when going out too, you just heat the water before you leave, that way it's warm by the time you need it and you don't need to find somewhere to warm it up.

I did the whole hot water **** too (not that im saying dont go ahead and do it if you like doing it that way *damn disclaimers*)...i found it so slow and annoying once you had a decent amount of milk in the bottle...i just started making all my formula in advance and nuking it when i needed it...as long as the bottle is thoroughly shaken to make sure theres no hotspots, theres not a problem doing it IMO...Just do whatever your comfortable with, theres nothing at all wrong with what your doing :)

I do it the way you do it, did with DD1 too.
I fiond it the best way as you are not heating the milk and potentially destroying any of the nutrients (even tho it has been proven that veryy little change to the milk occurs.)
It is easy and it works:thumbsup:

well we do it a bit differently because I don't think its very safe to microwave the bottles as harmful chemicals could come out of them. Anyway this is what i do after sterilising the bottles.

I thourough wash a jug with a airtight lid and pour hot boiling water in it and seal and leave it on the bench top. After sterilising my baby bottles I fill the bottles with the cool water and just keep on the counter tops and the baby bag. So all I have to do is add the milk powder. If you want to just put the bottle in a mug of hot tap water after is made up to heat the milk up. My daughter loves room temp milk so I don't bother.

THe CHN says its okay and we throw out the remaining water and wash the jug at the end of the day and boil some more water and its all set for the next day. At the same time at the end of the night we sterilise the bottles and fill them up too.

My cousin thought me that way and so much less hassle. Worse come to worse and if you go out you want hot water carry a small thermos of hot water and add it to the bottle of water to make it hot and then add the formula. Less hassles.

Hi and welcome to bubhub!!
I used to clean and sterilise the bottles (we have a steam steriliser) then make up six at a time with cooled boiled water and formula and have them in the fridge, I just found it made it easier that was and they keep like that for 24 hrs.
That was if I need one it just needs to be warmed:thumbsup: I like to find the easy way to do things!
