how often and how long

My baby boy is 11 days old when in hospital i was feeding him the amound according to what they use in special care nursery waking him if not awake every 4 hrs to feed him. Since being home i was told by health nurse to feed him when he wants to be fed and there is no right amound let him have what he wants. What i have been finding over the last few days is he will take 30 40mls not problems and then struggle through the rest maybe taking 70 to 80mls all up but he takes like 45min to an hour sometimes is this normal to take so long? He took 100mls this morning in about 20 25min but i woke him to feed after 51/2 hrs as he slept most of the night, not that i am complainin about that.

Sorry I have no answer for you as Im a first time mum, but wanted to say that what you have just written sounds exactly like my 2 week old boy :laughing:
I could have written that myself :yes: so your not alone!!!!
Its hard not to worry hey....
My boy was in special care for 9 days due to IUGR so I want him to feed as much as possible to catch up & put on weight :o
I too will be watching this thread...

Ds also use to take only 30 to 40mls... soon reaching up to 100mls then 150mls. It use to take an hour or so, sometimes longer lol. they do get quicker though... I was feeding him 4 hourly also.
