I've just started experiencing heart burn and looking to try something new this time around.
With my last pregnancy I used Rennie tablets because that's what was in my very first bounty bag :) but I found that they took a really long time to work if at all.
Has anyone tried other heart burn products which are safe to use while pregnant and had fast relief?

i had chewable mylanta tablets when i got heartburn, (i hated the drink its like drinking toothpaste lol) which was usually when i was trying to sleep, but sometimes just a glass of milk did the trick :)
I agree with the millk- I practically lived off Big M's lol.
I used *can't think of the name* oh quik eze  the wildberry (pink) ones were the best. Some people said they weren't good during pregnancy, but why are they in bounty bags, and why do they advertise in pregnancy magazines? It was good because you can get them at servos (although only usually the mint flavour) or if you go to the supermarket, you could get them in boxes of 3 packets.
They usually worked pretty quick and at least took the edge off for me- and I had acid baaaaaaaaad.
Heartburn is something I've suffered from with each of my pregnancies and each time it's gotten worse.
Usually quick eze chewys would do the trick but this time I've been feeling really sick because of the heartburn and it was affecting my sleep.
Just yesterday I got a prescription from the Dr for some Zantac and bless his socks the stuff is a god send!! :cloud9:
It's an effervescent tablet that dissolves in water and doesn't taste too bad at all. Best of all I've had absolutely NO heartburn for a whole day and was even brave enough to have a square of vegemite on toast for breakky - something that use to be the very worst for setting off my heartburn!
HTH!

Thanks I'll definately give Quik Eze a go. I've gone right off milk since becoming pregnant and can't even stand looking at, lol.
I use Mylanta chewable tablets during the day, and then at night before I go to bed I'll have a Zantac tablet if it's been a very acidy day IYKWIM?
If I've had a bad day and I go to bed without a Zantac, I'll quite often wake up having thrown up a little bit of acid! EEEWW! Sorry TMI.
Not sure which Zantac Moorish has, but mine isn't prescription - you can buy from pharmacy or from supermarket and it's just a tablet.
Good luck!

I've been using Tums. They are orange flavour. They aren't too horrible.
Quikeze is too chalky for me this time around.
And Rennie.. I wish they would fix the taste on those lol...

Hmmm, I have no idea!!!
The Dr offered a prescription about 5 weeks ago and I refused but I called the other day and said - I think I made the wrong choice :o and I picked the script up yesterday.
I've tried a few off the shelf products and I simply couldn't take them.
The other thing to consider is the cost - I was going through a pack of quick eze chewy every 2nd day and they're about $2 a pack.
Yesterday I paid $22 for the zantac and got 60 effervescent tablets - prescription is for 1 twice a day - but you could easily just take one late evening before bed :).
Doc recommended ranticidine, its from the phamacy, its just a small tablet you swallow whole.
I find it works wonders:yes:

!
Ranitidine/Zantac are the same thing and they are WONDERFUL!!! You don't need a script for them as you can buy them OTC, the come in 150mg and 300mg tablets. They are perfectly safe in pregnancy and very effective.
Good luck!

Thanks for that Moorish - I might have the ob write me up a script. Sounds like I will save a bit of money (like you!) as my heartburn just seems to get worse with each baby! It's nasty!
Ta!

I like Mylanta the best (the fruit flavour :))
Also i found that eating a handful of almonds worked really well for my heartburn/reflux while pregnant.

I bought some quik eze this morning to give that a try. At the moment it's not too bad or at least not as bad as my last pregnancy was. It comes on for about 5 minutes and then disappears as long as I'm not lying down. At night I find that if I sit up for bit it goes away. I'm hoping it doesn't get worse. With DD it used to stick around for hours at a time :(

I was too curious about it so I just grabbed my prescription.
I have Zantac effervescent 150mg - Ranitidine (as hydrochloride)
I called the pharmacy and I can't buy it over the counter - so I wonder if it's different from state to state?? Doesn't matter for me anyway as I have a few repeats on it and I only have about 14 weeks left!
Oh here's a thought - it comes in a couple of forms (tablet, dissolvable etc) so maybe one type is available over the counter?

At least you've got the name of it now, so like MooMum suggests that they could be available over the counter, I'd try calling your pharmacist first - and if it's prescription only in your area then just ask your Dr at your next appointment :).
Good luck with it - I literally feel everyone's pain! :D

You can get the tablets OTC but they make it in a liquid/syrup form that you need a script for as it's what is given to babies so they are much more careful with it. I assume this is why the soluble ones require a script as well. :flowerz:
Ahh yes that would make sense MooMum!
My friend had to give her daughter the liquid form as an infant for some sort of reflux and it was via prescription too.
At least we have some options for this jolly heartburn!! :D
Speaking of which, I've had a terrible day with it today and I'm off to take my 2nd one for the day before I go to bed, ohhh what a yucky feeling :(.

I had terrible heartburn with my DS. At first i tried quick ease but by the end it didn't help so i started drinking chocolate milk as i can not stand the taste of plain milk and it worked really quickly so after that i lived off 1 litre of chocolate milk every night pretty much.
Oh! I too have developed a craving for chocolate milk! However I also did weight watchers between pregnancies and know how devilish the classic chocolate milk is so apart from about 2 x 2litres that I've had over recent weeks - no more for me otherwise I'll be the size of a house by full term (as opposed to just being 1/2 the size of a house  :D)
Yeah, milk is a winner coz it lines the digestive tract and protects you from the acid. Shame some people can't stand the sight of it coz it really works. I agree that flavoured might be the way to go in that case. Just watch your sugar levels.
