Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone has any inexpensive suggestions for a newborn? Bub is 3 weeks old. I have a large stash of MCNs, mainly BBBs and terry flats from DD#1, whom I started on from about 10 weeks old (after discovering cloth). DD#2, with all that has been going on in our lives, has been in a combo of huggies (gasp :o) & MCN's which are too big and bit crusty from sun-drying, which make them a bit uncomfy for her. She has been getting a rash from the diposables and only gets better when I put cloth on her.

Any recommendations? I need to keep things as cheap as possible. She is a good size bub 9lbs at birth.

Not sure if its what you are after, but I'd recommend Booroi bamboo fleece prefolds (as I have often before :o I really need to be asking for money for advertising from them ).

They're about $8 each, you do need a cover on top.

They do boost a mean night nappy once bub grows out of them though, so even when they don't fit in the traditional way, they can be used often.

I really like the idea of the flannel flats for a cheap newborn nappy. They are changed so often in that time that they don't need as much absorbency. But I think it you wanted to use them a bit longer, before the other MCN fit better, then I would go the prefolds as they are more absorbent. I haven't used them before though so can't really comment on how good they are but NCB has PLENTY of times so they must work really well. :D

Thanks! What age do you think I can use these for to make it worth the purchase?

From right now.

DD at 22 months has them folded in thirds as a nice booster at night.

But they are folded in thirds and fanned out at the top... There are visual aids on the website.

So sorry, I didn't word that correctly... Besides as boosters, until what age can I use these as prefolds?

you can use them as a normal prefold from newborn . Check out the Booroi website as they do come in different sizes . Newborn , size one and size two I think . They have instructions on the differents sizes , what babies they fit etc .
If you are doing the nappy hunt I think Booroi are doing 10% discount on all stock for those involved . That starts this Sunday , just don't buy all their stock cause I need some too  .

Depends on the size of your baby, but I can see them lasting in the prefold size until around 4 months on my bubs.. and mine come out at around 4kilo at birth.

The larger size prefolds (2Ls I think) are currently on sale on the Booroi site and she's clearing out her stock for the new online store. I've been tossing up getting a stash of the big ones for when bubs is older.. as I think 20-30% off is too good a bargain to resist!

Also contemplating a second stash of the Size 1s, given that I haven't even started using them and already love them more than the terry flats LOL.
