Hello
Well the rain has hit perth today and I was hoping you guys can share with me the ways you have managed to dry your MCN during the winter times.
Do the yellow poo stains still come out without the sun?
Do you need to wash more often then every 2 days?
How long do they take to dry?
Will I need to buy more nappies? I have 9 ittis AIO, 8 magicalls and 9 greenkids....
Can I put them in the dryer?.....
Thanks guys :hugs: :flowerz:
I washed my BBB fitteds and bamboo prefolds for the first time today and hung them out first thing this morning thinking we would have a lovely sunny day like yesterday.. Though it hasn't quite rained (yet), it's been overcast all day and they haven't quite dried fully. So I'm guessing you'd need a full day of sunlight for them to dry or a couple of dry, breezy days if overcast. They need to be washed again, so I'm not overly worried (I will wait for a sunny day for the second wash, tho) at the moment, but I will have to bring them in tonight so the bats don't poop on them.. I'll hang them over the clothes horse under the aircon until morning and then see what the weather's doing tomorrow :) Bamboo takes the longest to dry, though, apparently.
You can use the dryer on most of them, I believe, on a low heat/cool setting, but I'm trying to avoid doing so until absolutely necessary.

The only thing I haven't put in the dryer are the PUL covers, although they can go in there on a lower temp setting. I just have a large rotation so that if things need 2 days drying time then I still have enough nappies. I do find that I have to wash daily during the colder weather though to help combat less nappies being available. I also use a clothes horse as I find it helps to have them inside overnight and then outside during the day.
The stains will still come out without a sunny day as it is the UV rays, that are still present during an overcast day, that does that job. So just getting some outside time is helpful. If I am running out of nappies I like to have them outside for the day time, inside overnight and if they need a bit more drying time, I throw them in the dryer in the morning, if the weather isn't going to be warm enough to finish them off or I need them sooner.
With you current stash you will definitely have to wash every day and probably get more nappies due to them being AIO as they do take longer to dry. I have found that my magicalls takes twice as long as my BBH fitted purely because I can pull the inserts out of the fitted and they don't have the PUL attached. They are all bamboo so I find it is good for a comparison.
You will probably end up using the pockets a lot - especially if you have more inserts vs pockets - as they dry so quickly. You will still find yourself running out of nappies though I think. It is a bit of a juggle and you should be able to figure out what works best for you. Good luck.

Thanks Bec. I think I will get more green kids pockets and more extra inserts as they will dry quicker and maybe a few more magicalls (because I like them) and possibly some more BBB and covers. I dont much like the fitteds though because they stay wet on DD skin and she seems more rashy after wearing them but if they dry quicker then maybe they will have to do!!
Thanks again :)

No problems at all, glad I could help.
To help with the wetness issue with the BBH you can just add some mirofleece/polarfleece as a stay dry liner to the nappy. This will help to draw the moisture away from bubs and help with the 'rash' issue.

ETA: Oh I wanted to add that you should keep an eye on ozebaby as you can usually get some seconds Green Kids inserts for a great price.

i would get more inserts for the greenkids kezza.. even if you get some hemp ones as they are ok for day time imo and dry really quick- like half the time..I often finish drying the inserts in the dryer as there are no snaps or pul to get ruined etc..the pockets themselves dry quite fast..
if you have itti snap in ones then you could get more snap in inserts as well..

we just bought a dryer for when it is too wet outside for them to dry as I use mainly GK with bamboo inserts.
if i hang them out first thing and they get some sun they tend to dry really quick and i don't need the dryer except to fluff them up if they are really stiff, but i try not to use the dryer at all as i hate using power when the sun is free.
i have just bought 10 more inserts to cater for the winter and might buy some more.
as for the stains will just have to put up with them till its sunny again.

Thanks girls :) I brought another 6 greenkids and inserts so that makes 15 greenkids in total plus my ittis and magicalls, the ittis are getting to small though so I dont really count them....should be enough to keep rotating through winter.

Hi Kezza,
I received some magicalls just over a week ago and washed them etc and i was so surprised by how long they took to dry when it wasn't really sunny. I hung them on an airer overnight and then back outside for an hour or so the next morning too.
I have 15 small magicalls and 8 bumgenius pockets and 16 flannellette flats. Sounds like heaps but now i'm glad cos it will really annoy me not having enough dry nappies over this winter.
I'm also going to order some BBH bamboo fitteds when they are in stock.
Hope this helps!

More inserts is a good idea. I refuse to own a dryer and havent had a problem with staining etc even when we lived in NW Victoria where the sun only shone from 11 to 3 during winter. We used airing racks to dry when we couldnt dry them inside particularly because we were using quite a few AIOs that took a while to dry. Lining your nappies would work out cheaper than running the dryer for a hour every other day...
One of the best things I've found when trying to dry DD's nappies during rainy days is to put them on the clothes horse so when there is a hint of sun or the rain stops I can just pick up the whole thing and place it in the sun! I usually put the clothes horse outside under cover (unless the rain is coming in almost horizontal) and then can just trot outside and put it out in the air and sun if I get a chance.
If your Magic-alls aren't stained and don't need the UV rays (ie. just wees) then turning them inside out speeds up the drying time a lot! I have found my Magic-alls are dry in a day even without much sun or heat if I turn them inside out when I hang them up.
