View Full Version : Retroverted Womb???
Hi everyone:wave:
Quite a few years ago I had a papsmear & the Dr told me I have a Retroverted Womb. She mentioned that it may be harder for me to TTC. Has anyone else heard of this?

both my mother and sister have retroverted uterus's and they fall pregnant when their partners wink. Everyone is different though, good luck.
I have a retoverted uterus too. I fell pregnant by accident with 2 of my children and the other two took 5 months and 9 months to conceive.
I've had 4 vaginal birth's too. I actually didn't find out that I had one until the sonographer mentioned it at my 12 week u/s with DS4.
When I was newly pg with the boys I had an ultrasound and the 1st thing the sonographer said was that my uterus was retroverted. I asked so does that mean it's the wrong way? To which she replied about 40-45% of the female population had a retroverted uterus, so it's not the wrong way, it's just the opposite way to a lot of others.
It took me 11 months to fall pregnant, and I have no idea whether it was anything to do with that or not... I don't think it will make much of a difference, actually :)
Ive got one of those but was told it does not effect conception at all. I have fertility problems but all due to other issues so dont worry to much.

I have the same and I found out that if you have a retroverted uterus, when TTC you shouldn't lie on your back with your legs up after BD because it actually sends the sperm swimming past the entrance to the uterus. You should actually lie on your stomach after BD to send the sperm the right way.
I read that the best way to hedge your bets is to alternate lying on your back after BD one time and lying on your stomach the next time. The month I did that I got pg with DD so I definitely recommend it.
I have a retoverted uterus and have fallen pregnant easily 3 out of 4 times....and the time that took longer was due to a thyroid issue. I have never had a miscarriage or anything either :)
as far as I know I don't think it hampers with conception, as a retroverted uterus is just rear facing rather than forward facing
after DS1, I had a retroverted uterus (apartently its common after having a baby) anyways, I never had a problem concieving after him

My cousin has a retroverted uterus, and she falls pregnant at the drop of the hat
All it means really is if/when you do fall pregnant you may have some slight bleeding, because the uterus is tipped over at the top, and old blood may be lodged there. As baby gets bigger the uterus straigtens out and releases some of that old blood.
Plus if the embryo lodges up there as well, you may get some bleeding. My cousin was all over the place, but that was all it turned out to be and she has a healthy and happy little girl now
Hope that helps!
:)
I just remembered one thing that happens...and it scares me every pregnancy......Because it is tilted backwards, it is hard for them to feel your uterus early on and it appears smaller than it should be if you know what I mean.....it isn't but it just feels that way.

i found out i had a retroverted utro when i went for my 13 week scan and they told me it was nothing to worry about it would just mean i wouldn't be able to feel the baby move all the time as it would block the vibratioins for me to feel
which i found out when i couldn't feel her for about 4 days i think it was so i went to the hospital and they done a scan and she was happy and playing around i just couldn't feel it cause my plecenter well the part that looks like your brains was at the front of my bellie and yer
but i fell pregnant as fast as you could say boo
Like the previous posters, I have a retroverted Uterus and so does my Mum and neither of us have had problems conceiving etc. The only thing I have ever been told, is that 'sometimes' babies can be breech due to the tilt of the uterus. It's not something I have researched etc, just something a couple of middies have told me along the way. But please don't take it as gospel. :)
Incidentally, my DD was breech.
Thanks so much everyone. I was concerned about this but feel alot better now
You should actually lie on your stomach after BD to send the sperm the right way.
Shelle - should I still have a pillow underneath me if I lie on my stomach?
Thanks again :flowerz:
I was told I had one at a pap smear many years ago. I had a lot of trouble getting pregnant when I was younger but not as I got older. I have no idea what caused my issues as I was told I had "unexplained infertility". My FS never mentioned that it could be an issue.
