View Full Version : Can he eat too many?
My 2 year old DS Samuel is addicted to Mandarins...
Can he eat too many?
I know they have citric acid etc.. he doesnt suffer from skin issues but i have noticed his bum has been a bit pink probably due to acid in his wee.....
any idea?

Hmmmm no advice, but at least it's a fruit :D At least it's not coco pops or chicken nuggets or something.
Mandarins are my craving. Mandarins, mandarin cordial, mandarin anything.
As far as I know (not having a medical degree or anything) Vitamin C is water soluble, i.e. you wee it out rather than fat soluble (store it), so it probably isn't doing any other harm apart from what you have noticed.
Could be wrong.
**toddles off to get another mandarin from fruit bowl overflowing with...mandarins**
I wouldn't give him too many...DS went thru a stage of wanting them all the time, I gave him half at a time on a plate with half an apple/banana/pieces of rockmelon/grapes...too many mandis made my DS burp heaps, as well as going thru him pretty fast. I can't eat citrus fruits at all.
Thanks for your advice ladies
I might limit it to three a day....
which means he has already had his quota today :D
and i agree Queenie at least its a fruit, could be much worse!!

Yeah i would be a bit wary about the citrus acid ouchies !
I used to over eat when it came to mandarins, oranges & tomatoes when i was little that i became intolerant to them :( I still eat them mind you but i have to be careful because too many means hives & me being very cranky !
So im careful with Boof in regards to how much he gets as ive noticed him getting a red bum on occasions where he has had to much citrus !
Three serves should be fine but i agree with Queenie it could be worse ! I hope Boof has a great eating habit as he gets older :D

My brother-in-law got constant headaches when he was a child - it turned out it was from eating too many oranges from the orange tree in his garden! He was also drinking orange juice etc - too much of a good thing, I guess ...
