just wondering if anyone out there has had to have a cervical stitch during pregnancy for whateer reason. If so was it for your first child? Did you get a natural birth. Was it for your second? Was it after a c-sect etc.
Can you give me all the info.
I've been googling and can't find a real lot. Looks like i have to have one as i have lost 2.5cm of my cervix from pre cancerous cells. i had a c-sect with mj as she was breech for 7 weeks. And am trying for a natural birth which my ob was fine about but she was a lil more hesitant but said if thats what i want she'd do with the stitch.....

Its called cerclage, or a tracheloplasty. It's used for cases of suspected cervical incompetence, which is usually only diagnosed after it's happened in one pregnancy (usually resulting in a 2nd trimester miscarriage). It generally speaking isn't done in first pregnancies, because there isn't the history and it's not something that's routinely scanned for, given it's fairly rare.

People with suspected cervical incompetence will usually have internal ultrasounds to check the thickness of their cervix, and if it thins to a certain point, will have a cerclage put in place.

As far as I'm aware, having a stitch shouldn't impact your decision for a natural birth. It will need to be taken out at an appropriate gestation to allow your cervix to dilate, IME this is usually done at about 36 or 37 weeks, as most of the risks associate with prematurity at this stage have passed. I'm not sure why your care provider would have hesitated, however, it may just be that in her mind the combination of a previous c-sect and a suspected incompetent cervix built to something SHE was unfamiliar with. If you want a natural birth, my advice would be to do a LOT of research, come up with a bullet-proof birth plan and have her sign off on it.

Good luck.

My SIL has had a stitch for both of her pregnancies for the same reason as yourself.

She has had 2 vaginal births, one of which she was induced, the other she went into labour "naturally" (in that they cut the stitch and she went into labour that day, although she didn't need gels, drip etc)

She had an epi for both labours.

Let me know if there is anything specific you wanna know and I will see if I can ask her for you :)
