hi everyone
i was just wondering how many of you use a dummy for your baby ?
I have been using one, only for when its sleep time, and once hes settled he normally spits it out and doesnt wake back up for it.
Im just wondering whether to wean him off it or just let him continue with it.
i just dont want him to rely on it when he falls asleep and keeps waking in the night(if he does, and needs it)..
I dont think ben was too bad, he still has a dummy now, even though hes 2, but it doesnt do him any harm.

Hi Tracy, we're using a dummy too

For when he is on the change table getting his nappy changed before a feed (only when he is beside himself I use it to calm him down, so he can suck on something).

And after a feed when he isn't quite settled but looks tired. He spits it out after he has fallen asleep and doesn't wake up for it during the night.
I think they are a god-send :smiliedance:

I know this is a topic that some parents don't agree with (that and circumcision, which we had done as well I might add) and it's looking great, all healed up now :)

I'm sure the majority of us have been brought up as babies with dummies in our mouth. I for one don't have any speech problems :p

I think before he is 2 we will try and wean him off the dummy if he is still using one then. Perhaps next Christmas we will exchange the dummy for presents from Santa. I've heard this is how some parents do it, like time the weaning for Christmas or Easter :D

We use a dummy for going to sleep etc and he spits it out when he dosnt want it. Albert likes to suck so i am happy for him to do so.

I had one up untill i was about 3 and i dont have problems.

Daisy is my 4th baby & she has a dummy. She isnt reliant on it if it falls out in the night she's ok.. I mainly use it as a comfort thing rather then have her on my boob for hours at a time. I think they are great.. Only one of my children didnt have a dummy.. She is 9 and STILL sucks her thumb when she is asleep causing all sorts of issues with her teeth . IMO dummies are much easier to get rid of them a thumb.

We use a dummy when he begins to get tired and grizzly and yes we do go in and replace it when it falls out in his sleep :P naughty!

DD had one til she was 8 months when she decided she didnt want it anymore. I'mhoping to get rid of it between 6 and 12 months with Daniel too.

hi thanks for the responses.
I decided for now just to let him have the dummy, it makes my life much easier, and most times he spits it out, if not i pull it out so he isnt suckling on it all night, and things working good this way.

I keep offering a dummy, he seems quite content sucking on it but wakes/gets unsettled when it falls out :(

We use dummies...always have. DS2 was never interested but the other two are professional suckers!

I think they have been just great for settling our boys.
