As I've mentioned before, I was a member of this site early last year, but decided to stop TTC for a while because it was pretty much ruining my life. My mind was on TTC 24/7 and it became my life, which in-turn, ruined the life I already had.

Now, about a year later we are ready to give it another go. During the past year, we had always had sex unprotected, but I had no idea when I O'd etc...

I know that if after 1 year of trying and nothing happens, you should get checked. Would this still be the case for me?

If so, what tests should I be asking for and why?

Given your history I would go to the doctor. All you need to tell them is that you have been trying for a year and not fallen pg. They will ask things like whether you had regular periods in that time etc and will then determine what tests to do but my first tests were a blood test to check my hormone levels (checking for hormone imbalance, PCOS etc) and a scan to make sure there wasn't anything physically wrong with my ovaries etc (cysts etc). They usually start there and the results determine where to go. If they can't find a cause for infertility in those tests they usually then recommend getting your DP to have a sperm analysis just to make sure there isn't anything wrong there. Having the sperm analysis is easier and less invasive than the second set of tests they do for a woman so they like to rule it out first.

I wish you lots of luck, this is a really hard journey but you are taking the right step in getting help at the start of trying again and I really hope you get your BFP!

Thanks kiahsmum!

I'll have to wait and see when we both have a day off next and try to make an appointment.

I really hope it isn't bad news, just bad timing :fingerscrossed:
