Planned C section question...

Hi I had an emergency ceasarean with my first child and Im now pregnant with my second. I am going to be booked for a planned ceasarean due to medical reasons and was wondering if anyone knows when they plan it for? Is it a few days before your dues date etc??
Im only newly pregnant and had my last child in the UK so dont know what the procedures are here in QLD. Thank you in advance:)

It will depend on your pregnancy and other medical factors (ie, underlying medical conditions) but generally in Australia an elective c/s is usually 1 - 2 weeks before your due date. Both of mine girls were delivered one week before their official EDD.

RANZCOG (Royal Aus and NZ College of Obstetricians and Gynocologists) recommends elective c/s are done at 39 weeks where possible. They used to generally be done at 38 weeks.

They're usually done at 39 weeks because that seems to lessen the baby's chance of getting breathing problems.
