Child welfare department?

my friend rang me up the other day and told me that one of her nextdoor neighbours rang her clinic nurse and told the CN that she had been leaving her 2month old baby at home at night by himself while she goes out. :(
The CN rang the child welfare department (i dont know the name of it) and they went around to my mates house accusing her of leaving her baby by its slef at night. she told them where to go..not in a nice way (i dont think that would have helped).

would the department have got quite alot of evidence before they went knocking on her door?

Her PIL are organising to get a lawyer and are going to sue the neighbour (when they have proof its her) for defamation of character.

Has anyone heard of this type of thing happening?

Thanks

I think it is just early (hence no replies lol). I dont know anything about child welfare department, but i am assuming that they have to follow everything through. If someone was leaving their bub at home by themselves, they would hardly tell child welfare. Not saying your friend was, just that it would bevery hard for the department cuz no one would be truthful. And i doubt they would take bub away or whatever with out any real proof. As for the neighbour, definatly sue them!!! Hopefully they get in trouble for making a false claim and wasting tax payers dollars. And also for taking time of the department, cuz while investigating your friend, they could be out investigating someone who is really mistreating their child. Sorry, but false claims are just so damn annoying, as you would know!

OMG!!! Why would someone do this? I hope they investigate it and then the neighbour gets sued if and when it's found to be a false allegation!! Please let us know how it progresses.........
