View Full Version : Falling pregnant after the pill
Hi,
I have been off the pill for a month & my period was due yesterday, so today have taken 2 HPT's but both negative. Feeling more tired & have this small pain / cramp in upper stomach, though think as tests were negative its prob just my system getting back to normal after 8 yrs on pill.....any advise on how long it can take after going off the pill?
My doc told me it makes no difference how long you have been on the pill for. It makes no difference to your 'reproductive status' so to speak. Before my first I had been on the pill for over 10 years & we fell pregnant the cycle after stopping it. Your periods may not be like clockwork though after coming off the pill. I guess time will tell :)
Hey LilyG
I stopped taking the pill in November, got AF in December and when AF didn't arrive at the end of January I knew I was UTD. I had been on the pill for 9 years.
I'm now 7 weeks pregnant!!!!
(I had taken 5 HPT from the day AF was due and all were BFN. I didn't get a BFP until 6 days after AF was due, very confusing time but just remeber it's not over until AF arrives)
Good luck :fingerscrossed:

Hi LilyG,
I came off the pill Dec 4 years ago, was getting married that coming April, told my husband that I thought it would take a few cycles to get sorted (I thought!!), we were aiming for a honeymoon bub but instead fell pg with DD the very next cycle in Jan.
Good Luck!!
Nicole
Thanks for your advise :) fingers crossed. Still no period today so think will wait to take another test end of the week.
It can happen straight away - it did for me. I didn't even think that I'd ovulated in the cycle as I had none of the signs but at nearly four weeks I got a faint bfp.
I was on the pill for 12 years and once I came off it (at the time of my wedding) it then took 10 months to fall pregnant.
It can happen straight away or take time....but I guess it just depends on your body.
Hello LilyG,
I came off the pill after 12yrs 1st Jan, five :bfn: HPT and a BFN BT and still no AF, this place is a wealth of information it can happen straight away or it can take time.
I hope your little one will come soon :babydust2:

Hey,
Nice to know other people go through the same things.
I was on the pill for 3 years straight and went off in Dec. My first cycle was 6 weeks, but my next one was 7 weeks to the day almost to the hour.
I took about 8 hpt test and i didnt "feel" preg but i was having cramps and tired etc. I caved and went to the docs for BT to confirm and then that same arvo AF arrived. Which was so great because i could finally start trying properly
My doc said that the symptoms you get can be caused by the body getting such a boost of the natural hormones after being on the pill for so long and it is sort of a shock to its system.
I guess it is personal choice if you wait for your body get back into a natural cycle before you get preg or not. I dont think it harms the baby if you get UTD straight away but i guess it is just suggest so your body gets used to having hormones and settles back into its normal routine. Which is good so then you can learn your cycle.
.
It took us a bit over 1 year to get our BFP..
Although like alot of the other ladies have said it can happen sraight after comingof the pill
Good luck darl, I hope you get your BFP soon

well I am COMPLETELY confused. I came off the pill on jan 12, and bled straight away, and I am positive I ovulated two weeks later. took three tests and all were negative, but never got my period, then two weeks ago, did another test and it was positive. (did another just to make sure and I am pregnant). So going by all my dates, my GP and I came to the conclusion that I was eight weeks pregnant. Well yesterday I had my first ultrasound and I am only six weeks pregnant, but I am quite sure I ovulated around two weeks after stopping pill. this is probably the most ridiculous question but could I have ovulated again two weeks after that, or was I wrong about ovulating the first time? It's so confusing.
Thanks again for your advise & well wishes. Its all very confusing but guess just need to be patient..though in saying that still no AF so am now 8 wks late just did another HPT negative - is it worth while now going to docs to get a blood test??
Hello LilyG,
Get the BT if only to get final conformation, a no your not still hurts but I'ts better to know for shure. I started taking Vitex after my BT (dident want to if there was even a small chance I was UTD) Long cycles after the pill seem to be pritty normal and its up to you if you want to wait or try to correct them.

Hey chicky's nice to chat to other ppl in the same boat. Went off the pill on the 1st of Dec 08 and got a weeks bleeding after coming off the pill and that's the only bleeding I've had. Still no sign off AF after coming off 3 and a half months ago. Has anyone had this? How long has it taken everyone to get AF after coming off the pill?
A little worried we may be in for a really long ride. My girl is on her way to 3 and would hate for her to b 4 when the next on arrives. We had no trouble concieving her and was hoping this time would be the same.
Here's hoping for a lucky month for us all. :fingerscrossed: Feel free to PM me. Would love to chat to anyone who's going thru the same stressful journey.
Well I have been off pill since end of Jan & still no AF, it seems like its a common thing to have no AF for up to 3 months...have taken 4 HPT & all negaitive but have booked my BT for tomorrow so at least then I will know for sure. It seems like the best option if not sure is to go & see the doc & get a BT then at least they can tell you yes or no or look for anything else that might not be quite right.
Is Vitex something that the docs recommend to get your system back into gear?
Hello,
My Dr dident put me on Vitex though he dident say not to.
Its something I found here some people are for it and some are against I waighed up both sides and decided to go ahead.
It knocked me around abit the first 4 days but I figured at least that ment something was happening it's been 14 days and I'm pritty shure I just O'ed for the first time since coming off the pill but DH and I decided to wait till AF came and start TTC next cycle which by the No's with Vitex doing the counting for me should be starting 2nd April.
Very hard not to BD right now as I'm feeling the green light but want a fresh home for bub, it probibly dosent realy matter as others have gotten PG on longgg cycles with Vitex without having a propper AF after the pill (not realising it would happen that way) but now that I know is possible we would rather wait, if frustration dosent get the better of me that is!!
