View Full Version : Periods while breastfeeding
Hi,
My DD is 4 weeks today, and although my bleeding has been thining over the past few weeks, I have noticed this morning that it is darker and more bloody more like my period used to be.
Can someone please tell me if this is my period or should I go to my GP?
Thanks
Lyndal
Hi there, some women experience what seems to be a "small period" about the time you have. As far as I am aware this episode of painless bleeding is normal as long as it it does not become profuse or prolonged or repeat.
Having said that - if It were me and I was at all anxious- I would ring the GP or Oby , just to put my mind at rest. Also the hospital I attended also told me to ring the maternity ward if I had any questions and were really helpful when I spoke to the midwives there in my early days.
If you experience any of the below symptoms, I would definately call your oby or GP.
Signs to look out for include:
Your sanitary pad becomes soaked in less than an hour
You smell a foul odour in your discharge
Your clots are the size of a fifty cent piece or are larger
You start to feel faint or even dizzy or come down with a fever and/or chills
thank you for your advice, its just mild bleeding, I do not have any cramps or clots or anything. if it does get heavier or any other symptoms I will contact my GP.

My Ob told me that sometimes the Lochia phase can wax and wane. It can continue for up to 12 weeks  If its bothering you, I'd ring the Dr just to be on the safe side.
