MIL has come out with the sillyest thing the other day.
She goes to me
"I saw the weirdest thing yesterday"
Me "oh really, what?"
MIL "In a magazine there was a picture of a little girl (toddler) breast feeding her doll" a pause for the shock/horror to hit me "it was just bizare don't you think?"

She really told this to the wrong person as I embarked on a one girl mission to 'convert' mil from this way of thinking. She ended up agreeing with me in the end that yes she did think now that there wasn't anything wrong with it (I had informed her that DD did this very same weird thing she has seen in the photo) but I have the feeling she was just trying to get the scary person of her back:laughing:

But the thing that gets my back up mostly was she saw this in a bf magazine. What did she expect to see honestly?

i was actually slightly surprised myself! not shocked, or concerned, i dont think its a bad thing at all, it just never clicked in my head that a little girl would do this, as ive never seen one imitate breastfeeding in any of my time babysitting, in childrens entertainment, or around friends kids, and family etc.
I certainly wouldnt call it bizarre though - i mean children imitate bottlefeeding, rocking baby to sleep, pushing baby in pram, changing babies diaper, why not breast feeding? really now i think about it maybe we should be concerned that all dolls seem to come with dummies and bottles, and we arent promoting bfing to our youth.

anyway:ecomcity: this actually got me thinking (amazing in this haze lol)

When Gabriel was born, both Oliver and Jordan would sit next to me and breastfeed their toys.

Why not? Honestly, how else are the toys going to get fed??? Breastfeeds are food, and there's no other way to feed a baby! (As far as my boys were concerned.. baby/toy was hungry, baby/toy was given food (breastmilk).

Completely normal in any breastfeeding house with siblings around the 20-36month age.

Now at 4, O and J understand that only Mummies have milk... so that's cool, they just pretend they're Mummies!! Or bring the toys to me. lol.

Oh... and they carry their toys in a sling too... strange yeah???

the strangest one ive gotten was when i had DD my niece (was 6 at the time) was worried when she was told that i was BFing that i was getting tied in to a milking machine like a cow!
poor thing nothing funnier then her nervously looking about our house to see "where aunty fleur was getting tied up to feed the baby):p

I remember breastfeeding my doll. It was at my 3rd birthday party, my friends and I were in the cubby and I remember lifting my dress to feed.

My neice used to sit next to me when DD was newborn and feed her toys too.

I think it's sweet! :bee:

Why is that weird? Don't they sell baby bottles for little girls dolls.. Why can't both feeding options be ok to pretend to do?

hi, I have a magic moment. I was sitting up in my bed, bf my girls one morning, and my son, 22months old, came into me with two teddies, and undid his pjs shirt, and sat 'bf'ing his two teddies. It was just magic, and I had no camera or noone else in the house to share the moment with, but it is always a special memory for me. Marie.

All my children have imitated BF they don't see bottlefeeding so it is natural for them to play BFing with their dolls.

Even my gorgeous son BF's the dolls after he has given birth to them, lol.. We watch homebirths on youtube :)

What a weird way for your mil to view the mag..

MJ breastfeeds EVERYTHING......transformers, dolls, bears, her fur-real pets, spiderman  I've lost count of the times she's tried to feed Ani  Mind you, the day he actually did try to latch on she was so proud :goodvibes: :p

They also get bottles when she's too busy doing other things

My doll/s were breastfed!
sadly they never really grew up :p i think i must have done it till, um...i started highschool? :o

the weirder thing, was that i'd wrap them in a plastic bag and put them under my top...and then 'birth' them LOL (i was present for my brothers birth...and his placenta was more interesting than him ;) - i was 3)

she is a MIL are you surprised they always come out with random silly things lol

Kids will feed there dols in the way that is normal to them, I think its great that they do its imaginary play, Its nice that they see the most natural way of feeding as the way to do it

My DD has a vary weird sense of normal and feeds her dolls directly into there tummy or into there arms or chest as to her that is normal KWIM people may think its weird but I really dont care
