View Full Version : Hoarse voice
This may be strange question but has anyone found themselves with a hoarse voice while being pregnant? (i.e. is that a usual "symptom"? I've certainly never heard of it if it is...)
I've had one for over a week now but haven't been sick with cold or flu or anything that could warrant mild laryngitis (husband reckons I talk too much, but I DON'T!)
Maybe it's the cold weather here in Melbourne? I've never had this before!
Hey Kinky
Hoarseness of voice can be a symptom of decreased functioning of the thyroid gland - but this usually comes along with other symptoms i.e. loss of energy, dry skin and hair, tremor, constipation and other symptoms ... alternatively, maybe due to increase in hormones during pregnancy - I think it is quite rare, but can be linked with pre-eclampsia.
Sorry sounds more scary than I intended :( but I would mention it to your doc, just to rule out any real problems ... and in the mean time, enjoy that new 'sexy' voice!!
:)
Hi Kinky! Just wanted to let you know that my friend experienced the same symptom during her pregnancy and her doctor told her it was due to hormones. She felt uncomfortable about it for a little while but hers did pass. Hope you are well otherwise. Chat soon. Liz
Hi Kinky,
yes I had a bit of a hoarse voice with both my pregnancies. Nothing major, but a bit as if I was recovering from a cold - and I couldn't reach any high notes (not that that was too much of a problem, being as I'm tone deaf anyway!). I've also found that it takes a few months to go away. My youngest is over five months now and it's just coming right. But it didn't seem too major to me - just one of those weird things that happen.
good luck.,
