ok so i am picking up my new kitten this afternoon.

the thing is its only 6 weeks old, so its very little ive tried to convince the lady to keep her a little long but she wont.

DD loves animals the thing is she just isnt the gentlest person.:o our dogs and the cat we already have are use to her. they can handle her "patting" (goes from gentle pats to quite hard pats- the kelpie actually enjoys it)

im worried she might do this to the kitten and i know that it would seriously hurt it.
so i need to tips on helping keep the kitten unharmed and DD calmer and maybe away from the kitty

any advice is welcome:D

I really don't think the kitten will mind. Probably the sooner kitty gets used to your dd, the better :)
If she does get too rough, tell her the kitten needs to go away for a while because she's not playing very nice..and put the kitten into another room for some peace

Yeh definitely give the kitten a space "away" from your DD. All cats generally need this, but adult cats are more adept at finding them. Forced time out, if the kitten can't get away, will be just as effective. Don't forget, the kitten will also need time out from the cat and dog while they get used to each other - some one on one time with you and DH if possible would be ideal :) That will help reassure the little tyke and help teach your DD that there are limits (hopefully).
