My DS is 6 months and I think I'm being used as a bit of a pacifier.

Each day is so different. Some days he gets to sleep, both day and night, with me simply placing him in his cot.

But about 70% of the time he needs me to feed him and fall asleep there. If I pull the nipple out of his mouth, he gets cranky and looks for it again, sometimes he will cry a lot until I put it back in. I know, I know....... wrong thing to do. Am I being used?
How do I stop this and just get him to go to sleep awake or at least just being rocked or cuddled:o

I can really sympathise with you...I am in the same situation. I haven't found a solution yet. I have attempted controlled crying, but gave up....all that crying just broke my heart. (Yes, I know I'm weak!) Will watch this thread with interest.

I think you are being used as harsh as that sounds! How do you feel about dummies? Control crying is very hard and its not really recommended for really young babies. But you are going to have to be strong and not let your bub fall asleep feeding cos it will never end!
You can put him in the cot and stay with him stroking and patting and shooosing. It takes time but with persistance it will pay off. I used to have a terrible time with my older son when he was a bub he would only sleep in my arms so I kinda know where you are coming from.
Dont have much more advice Im sure you are doing a great job!:hugs:

tried a dummy to soothe him from the day he was born.... not interested, spits it out every time!
I have tried a bit of controlled crying but like so many others, can't stand to hear my baby cry for too long, especially when it becomes too hysterical. guess I might slowly try to wean him from doing so. it might take a while, but it will be beneficial to all of us in the end.... more sleep!:smiliedance:

Hi,
It takes time (mine got into a bit longer spacing around when they started to crawl/walk and occupied themselves a little), one day you wont have something that sooths so fast to offer. The magic boobie healer of anything and everything. Make the most of it while you can.

Have you tried the Happy Baby brand of dummies? I tried lots of different brands, all of which my little boy rejected until I tried this one. It may just be his personal preference but it might be worth trying it if you haven't already. :o
