BF for 10 months and no AF yet

Hi ladies,

So I've been breastfeeding my first child for over 10 months now.

He is currently only having around 4 feeds per day.

Is it normal that I haven't had my menstrual cycle return yet?

Also, I'm under the impression that I can still get pregnant even if it hasn't returned. Is this true?

I didn't get mine back until DS was 19 months old, and am still BFing him now. And yes, you can get pregnant whilst BFing (I asked a similar question ages ago and a lot of women posted who had gotten pg whilst BFing!).

don't stress, its totally normal to not get your AF while breastfeeding, you may not even get it till a mth or so after you completely stop

and yes you can still fall preg before AF arrives, you ovulate before AF so because you having got it yet, there is no telling when that will happen

I'm breastfeeding my 8mth daughter with no sign of AF.

With my son, i only half breastfed (half bottle) until seven months when he went all bottle. I didnt get my period back for another 4 months later.

Everyone is different.

As for getting pregnant, yes you can because you ovulate before you get your period, so there isnt really any sure way of telling that your cycle is back until its too late iykwim.

with DD1, AF returned after 18mths... DD2 at 19mths... and I got pregnant on the third cycle... while still feeding her

yep, no periods until my bubs were about 11 or 12 months :yelclap:

for myself I couldn't get pregnant while bf, even when only one a day. stop feeding, bam, pg a month later.

I wouldn't recommend bf as a contraceptive and you sure can get pg before your af comes back. as others have said, you ovulate first and then get your af.

Don't worry Sam's mum...I actually WANT to get pregnant again soon! I'm on the mini pill at the moment- I have 2 months' supply left in the pack then I'm going to stop taking them. We'll see what happens!;)
