View Full Version : best clothes for over cloth
This will be my first baby in cloth and I was just wondering what clothing people have found fits well over a cloth bum . I will be having a winter baby .
With my last child they lived in the bonds jumpsuits and body suits that do up between the legs , would they cause to many compression leaks ?
I was thinking fleece pants and long sleeve tops might be a better option .
Thanks

go the longsleeved kmart or big w branded suits (ie. hundreds and thousands). they are a roomy fit. (bonds as you know are quite small). DD is in 00 long sleeved jumpsuits at the moment and she can fit her nappy over it quite comfortably.
you also have the option of a dress over a nappy with babylegs underneath :)
Oh no. I hadn't thought about the size of a nappy under clothes. Which is a bit scary considering how many bonds wondersuits I have already bought and been given. I hope I can still use them. Can anyone tell me if using prefolds and BBH covers will be really bulky?

I had DS in terry flats which I find bulkier than MCNs. Most clothes would fit over them but it was tough to get store bought jeans to go over them. I made a lot of clothes too and I find home made clothes to be a bit more generous in the bum.

Bonds wondersuits are sized smaller than most other baby clothes but they are quite stretchy. Depends on the size of your baby but 000 were a perfect fit from newborn for us - my 1st 2 were 8lbs and the last one 10lbs.
000's in other brands worked over cloth nappies but I did have to roll the sleeves up, no drama if their hands are covered in winter anyway. I tended to buy my babies clothes a bit big rather than a perfect fit. The only 4 0 sized things I had were one's given to me and I felt they were a bit of a waste as they only lasted a few weeks.
I also found the k-mart 100's & 1000's brand quite roomy. Target's growsuits are good too, they are my favourite because they are reasonably priced, wash well, keep their shape, and come in a variety of colours/patterns etc.
I don't know about prefolds but I used terry flats with my first 2 and also for the first 3 months with DD3 and they are bulkier than MCN but I still found the all in one suits fine - I prefer them on little bub's as they don't ride up their backs and need tucking in etc. I used bonds singlets and also the t-shirt type singlets that button between the legs - I just use a bigger size if they were too tight over the cloth nappy. 000 worked ok from birth & compression leaks weren't a problem.
Goodluck!
Thanks heaps ladies. Not so stressed now. Sorry Mundyc for hijacking your thread. I just had never thought of that...
Thanks girls , I will have to give the 0000's a miss this time around .
Just found out we are having a girl , now to get my hands on some of those georgous Minilala nappies :D
Wish me luck , they are hard to come by !!
