i am looking at studying to become a doula in the latter part of this year.
I was thinking would centrelink pay for the course?
I know that i am entitled to one course a year with them, would this qualify?

No cause i don't think its an approved course. Also im not sure that you get 1 free course a year. I have asked them before and they said you can get a study allowence and thats it

I didnt think they would. It would be very nice if they did.
What is the study allowance? I have never heard of it.

I dont think centrelink pay for courses
I know if you start work you get Employment entry payment and studying you get $60 F/N for that if it is an approved course (may be more, its been a while since i was studying)
I have done courses through Sarina Russo employment agency, and i know other job agency's also pay for courses. I did Occupational Health and Safety which was $999  and they covered the cost for me, also brought me clothes, shoes etc ( i was a single mum at the time) I think you just need to register with them as a job seeker and they will go out of there way to help you study or get back into the workforce, they get paid if they get you in the workforce.
If you go ahead, dont forget to ask centrelink about the JET program (jobs, employment.training) where they will subsidize even further the cost of childcare, making it about $2 a day that you will pay.
Good Luck

Thats what i meant to ask.
Would an employment agency cover the cost of the doula course?

I guess you would have to check around with a few different job agencys.
If you can get a job with an doula agency after you do the course. Then they might pay for it. If you can't get a job out of it, then no they won't. They only get paid if they get you into a paying job. So doing a course like that might get you some work, but the govment won't see it as a full time/part time job.

Hi i just thought i would let you know.
Depending on what course it is and where it is held, if its at Tafe or through OTEN than i know that Centrelink will NOT pay for the course but you are entitled to a smaller fee if you are on Centrelink and thats through the people that run the course.
If you are on Centrelink than you are entiltled to only pay $100 for any course but if you have to buy other material like text books etc than you would purchase those yourself.
Also there is an extra payment that you get while your studyting from centrelink which someone has already mentioned above.
Call the place where your going to be doing the course and ask if they have this option and whether or not its centrelink approved..
Good Luck and all the best...
