GOOD mornin ladies, sorry to sound like a lil whinger but i need some help....
My lil boy ashton turns 1 on the 5th and has been sleeping through the night since he was 4months, now he has just gotton 4 more teeth and also another 2 coming threw, but he has been wakeing up at rediculous hours
Mon night: 12-30, 2-30, 4-00 i got him up, screamin
Tue night: Pretty much the same but got him up at 2-30 put him in bed iwth e, fell asleep so i tried to sneak him into his bed, worked for 5 min, so bak in bed with me. and a lil more sleep for him untill 5.30 wen daddy got home...
Wed night: 11-00 woke up crying, 11-47 ended up getting him up, he slept with me untill 12-40 then wanted to play, i was like no, so i put him in bed, um no go, so bak in bed with me and slept for a bit, untill 2.00am, then woke up so gave him a bottle...
His daddy was home by then and got him up for a play i think and now he was up again at 5...
ive cut bak his days sleeps and everything, so i dont understand, is it just cause he was sick last week with gastro and teething, he still has diarhoe...
Not sure wat to do, spent the last 2 mornings crying and saying i cant do this, i dont wanna get depresed..
please help us please... :banghead:  :fingerscrossed: :ecomcity:
Aaaaah.... this sounds SO familiar.
I had my little breakdown last Wednesday. Well, actually "little" depends on the scale we're using really!
Is he crying like he is in pain, or is it just discomfort and itchy gums?
If it's pain, i'd give him a little bit of panadol before going to bed. If it's just itchiness, i can only suggest what i used to do for DD when she was going through that stage.
There are those teething toothbrushes. They are rubber and sort of have rubber spikes on the ends. Before you put your son down at night, give him a good gum scratch with the teething brush (I just bought a set from our pharmacist, but i think Target and the like has them too).
As i'd scratch her gums, she'd shudder with comfort. And she'd sleep through.
I hate to say it but if he is due for his canines to come out, then they are the hardest teeth. They apparently hurt the most. I'm go with the panadol.
I'm sorry i couldn't be more help. :(
If you can get anyone to spend a bit of time with him during the day so you can catch a few Z's, it will also do you wonders. Endless string of nights like that can do a person's head in. Believe me!
Feel free to PM me if you need to.

I'd give him panadol before bed, and then again in the middle of the night when he wakes up (if it's been past 5hrs since he last had it). He might also sleep better if he is in with you, just move him later.
I feel for you, matthew would get his teeth 8 at a time, then nothing for months, then another 8, then nothing for ages. :(
Oh dear, i'm going through this with DD at the mo,, waking up all through the night due to teething. I can only second what the girls are saying with the panadol. It's so awful isn't it.:crying:

it looks like a few of us are having to cope with late night/all night screaming sessions due to teeth. beth is cutting her first ones and screams for hours no matter what i do for her. i have found cuddles and rocking in the rocker helps her a bit to calm down after the dose of panadol.
i hope everyone gets more sleep soon. :fingerscrossed:
Poor little ashton!!
Jake is cutting teeth too at the moment. It doesnt seem to be upsetting him, but he is still waking up at all hours as well.
What works for us is bonjella, and i found the nurofen to work better than panadol.
I'll see you on Saturday, and we can both have a big whinge together!!

My DD is 1 on the 7th of this month and is doing EXACTLY the same thing.
We just dont know why its happening.
She used to sleep from 7 - 7 now its like 9 - 7 but waking up like 3 times screaming franticly and uncontrolably.
From tonight onwards I am putting a night light in her room so if she wakes up she is not in the pitch black and can read a book (she loves reading herself to sleep).

Wow im not alone...
Jack is also 1 and has been doing this the last couple of weeks! He too was a god sleeper and like all you guys hes waking up atleast 2 or 3 times a night.
Im trying not to do the bed thing with him though coz i personally dont want him in that routine (oh if i wake up mum will just take me in her bed).
Im using the bonjella and nurofen aswell.
Hope it passes soon for all our sakes

Just out of curiosity, do you ladies get up each time they wake, or do your husbands get up so you can sleep?

Ha!
I get up! My DH sleeps through the entire thing. Dont ask me how as she is screaming the neighbourhood down.
He has always slept through everything, even when we co slept when she was inconsolable.

eek: I'm a bit scared the most common response is an immediate 'dose em up with panadol"
I know panadol makes a point of having their *does not contain* list as large or larger than the ingredients list on all packaging and advertising (and changes their this list to suit the current list of frowned on medicines)
But it's not hard to read the label and see it contains only 6 seperate ingredients
Panadol: 1- 5yrs, colourfree suspension.
1 medication =
Paracetamol
3 preservatives =
Sodium Methyl hydroxybenzoate
Sodium Ethyl hydroxybenzoate
Sodium Propyl hydroxybenzoate
Just in case, as there are different types of each name. I called the panadol helpline to check the exact preservative numbers before posting the following pres. info i was informed panadol uses the following:
E218 Synthesised from benzoic acid, methyl para-hydroxybenzoate is a antimicrobial agent. Typical products include beer, fruit products, pickles, sauces, deserts, soft drinks, processed fish. Preservative. Allergic reactions possible, mainly affecting the skin.
E216 Preservative. Possible contact allergen and potentially dangerous to asthmatics.
And number 3? according to panadol helpline has no number but is in the same 'family' as the other 2, i can only think of or find info on:
E215 The sodium salt of ethyl para-hydroxybenzoate, used as an antibacterial and antifungal preservative, also has anaesthetic effects. multiple online sources show E215 as being banned in australia ? (anyone know for certain?)
the next 2 ingredients are Sorbitol and Maltitol
Legally panadol need only display the following warning to use these ingredients
"may have a laxative effects or cause diarrhoea"
but these suger free sweetener's can actually have the following documented side effects:
Nausea,
gas,
diarrhea,
stomach cramps
anal irritation
rectal bleeding,
vomiting,
weakness,
dizziness,
persistent urge to empty the bowel.
Now these ingredient are NOT going to cause problems immediately or with one dose and (probably) wont with the occasional use or even as directed.
But as panadole has with their multi million dollar advertising campaign's created such a general belief of complete safety, i thought it couldnt hurt to add some extra info about the things they deliberately try to hide.
i use panadol but only for high temps and even then i prefer to take every other step first. I dont think it hurts to consider these medicines an absolute last resort option only after everything else has been tried.

I would much sooner give my kids panadol (which has been around for donkeys years) than have them screaming all night.
