Dear All,
I need you advise, i have put Liam on formula full time and since thenhe has been very unsettled. I have been giving him Karricare as this iswhat my DD had. If you formula feed, what brand do you use and why and how much are they drinking per feed.
I think that Liam is just wanting to suck and i am feeding him and thisis just adding to his sore windy tummy, somtime it is hard to tell whathe wants.
Thanks
 Hi there, we are using Karicare Gold.
I heard this was a good brand and as this is our first baby I haven't got anything to compare it too. Our son is 3 weeks old tomorrow and I am giving him 100ml with 2 scoops as per the directions on the tin. He is feeding every 2-3 hours during the day and approx 4 hours at night (which is good!).

We use Heinz nurture for newbubs. Aiden is 5 weeks old and he drinks anywhere between 100ml to 150ml per feed and has cut back to 5 feeds a day.
Honestly though i would suggest demand feed, it can also depend on how heavy bub is too. We pay about 16.78 for a tin of heinz. We were using SMA which was a cheaper formula and found bub was getting really unsettled after a feed, with reflux etc , it hasnt been totally fixed but bub is alot more settled.
It is so hard to know what is right or wrong, I have two other children who I have bottle fed and yet I question myself time and time again.
Good luck
Just reread your post, I found with Aiden that he wanted to just suck(he had a very vigorous suck too), so he was actually drinking his milk flat stick -so a bottle within 5-10 mins. he would get incredibly painful tummy and cry etc, then he would suck madly at his hand and therefore i would think he wanted more milk. It just added to the problem.
So if your bub is doing this I would suggest checking your teats---apparently you should have a drop per second....so either tighten the bottle lid or loosen but check this over the sink with warm milk(the same temp you give it to bub). This is what a midwife who come to my house did cos I couldnt work out how too in all my sleep deprevation(i felt like a right royal idiot)
Try and get feeds to last nearly half an hour and after they finish give them a dummy. Mine hasnt really taken to the dummy like my other kids and i find i have to hold it in forawhile for him to actually suck it good enough to stay in his mouth.
Hope this helps

i use sma, i think its going ok, although jayden has been quite unsettled recently, but i think its more to do with wind than the formula we use.
He averages 100-120 ml per bottle, but im still demand feedin him at the mo. oh hes 3 weeks old today

As of yesterday we started to use the Nan Pro Gold.
Alby seems to be going ok on it and i feed to the instructions. The nurse i spoke to today said he should be on no more than 6 feeds a day. He is now 4 weeks.

Hi there
DS is 3 weeks old tomorrow - he is on NAN Pro1 Gold. We tried the NAN HA1 however it was a little strong for him. He got constipated however now the Pro1 seems to have sorted that out. He is having 160ml every 3-4 hours during the day and 4-5 hours overnight.....I have just increased his feeds this week from 120ml and he is still draining the bottle. He is going to be a BIG boy as compared my my DD.
My DD was also bottlefed as I had problems BFg - my milk never came in etc
We use AVENT bottles and the #1 teat at the moment - we might try moving to the #2 teat in a couple of weeks.....
DS is a little windy as well - I am trying my best to get all the wind up however sometimes its a little hard!
Good luck with it!

Thank you all for your advice, we are doing better, he is still feeding every 3 hours and has some periods that he is unsettled. I dedcieded to continue with the Karicare but have stoped using the Avent bottles, and we are using the Pigeon Peristaitic bottles. This has reduced the wind that he was getting.
He still does a lot of grunting in his sleep but is not waking up as much.

We are using Karicare SOY. My DD is Milk Protein intolerant. She is drinking every 2-3hours and having 100-120mls per feed. She is still one week off of her due date. :yelclap:

Berni - How do you know if your baby Milk Protein intolerant? Just out of interest, do they get upset tummy etc like adults?
Liam is still having unsettled periods after feeding, i think he may have some reflux, as he will go to sleep then he grunts and screems in his sleep, he will then wake and be very hard to settle. Other times he sleeps well for 2 - 3 hours, so hard to tell what is wrong.

My DS has really bad allergies and he had an appointment with the hospital allergy clinic. I just squeezed DD into the same appointment. I just told the doc her symtoms and he said "Do u think she is allergic?" and i said yes. I deal with allergies all the time. Plus My DS had the same thing.;)
I have a script for Neocate incase soy didn't work out.
Is anyone using Karicare AR?
My 4week old is on it for her reflux but it takes her forever to drink it cause it's a little thicker than usual.
Anyone have any good tips? We can spend over an hour sometimes on just 100ml.

Hi there, I was just wondering with your baby's reflux how severe is it? I have been contemplating switching to the AR but not sure. My DS vomits about once/twice a day (definitely more than just spills). I don't know whether to stick with the Karicare Gold for the timebeing and see if it improves. Sometimes when I burp him I don't get much wind up either, so I bought some Infacol drops today which I'm going to start using from his next bottle. Thanks

Bel would spill about a mouthful each time we burped her after a feed, then ten or fifteen minutes later it'd all come back up. She'd cry and curl up her little legs and had a real worried look on her face.
Our Health nurse said it was ok as long as it wasn't distressing her but after the second day the crying got worse and we switched her to the AR.
Alot of Bub's dont' bring up wind or if they do it's only small. My first used to keep it locked away until it came out the other end.
Talk to a Midwife, GP or a Health nurse before you switch to the AR as it is thicker and sits heavier in their little tummy. Your Bub may just need a burp half way through to get rid of any wind that's swallowed while drinking from the bottle.
Good luck.:)
Thanks Nae! I think Will seems content enough, so we will probably stick with the Karicare Gold for the timebeing  If it does get worse we will certainly get some advice before switching to the AR.

Thanks TracyNBen. I have started using Brauers Colic Relief which has seemed to help slightly. I will definately give Infacol a go once he turns 1 month which is next week - where did that go? Infacol / Infants Friend etc made our DD vomit up her feeds - hopefully it works better with DS
Our DS is the same with his wind - he is bugger to settle during the morning due to wind....
Have you tried putting some towels underneath his mattress to raise it? This has worked for us so far - still a little unsettled but much better than he used to be!
