Better late than never, i have finally decided to buy a trial pack of the bamboo itty bitties. I know it's not much but it's a start for me! :)
My questions are:
Are these okay to use for night time without having to change? - My son is 9 months old so pretty much sleeps through night, don't want to have to change him if i can help it.
During the daytime, how often would you change your nappies, is it same as disposables or less? OR am i just changing the inside bit.
What's the deal with liners and boosters?
Are the liners just for easy poop removal? Do i need them in all the time?
Do i really not have to soak the nappies before washing them?
Sorry i have a lot of questions... i would love to convert full time to cloth nappies, but just want to get a few things sorted out before i make the change!
Thanks ladies!!! xox
I dont use itty bitties so i cant help at all with that part but:
Most nappies require a booster at night time unless they are highly absorbant or meant as a night nappy. No changing should be needed, just got to make sure its ok to start.
I change my girls about the same as i would have using disposables, maybe less.
Re liners and boosters -
liners basically make washing them easier. Poop goes onto the liner and not the nappy, you can get flushable liners which well...get flushed. Liners aren't essential. If you do go full time cloth, may be worth getting a 'little squirt' which is an attachment for your toilet that lets out high pressure water (that you control) and squirts any nasty contents into the toilet.
A Booster is an extra bit boosts the absorbancy of a nappy. Boosters are often used overnight or for naptime with heavy wetters.
Yes, you really DONT have to soak them. Great huh?? :p Just put the de-pooped nappies in a pail and wash them at will. No soaking in water or nasty chemicals. http://www.bubhub.com.au/community/forums/showthread.php?t=63381 that is a thread for the washing and caring of cloth nappies should answer some of your questions.
Hope i was some help!

They most likely won't do your little one overnight unless he is a very light wetter.
I personally don't use Itti's either so I can't comment on the other things you have mentioned.. I'm sure someone who can will be along soon.

Just adding with the washing...make sure you dont use detergent with whiteners, softeners or brightners!! they can ruin the absorbancy! GOOD LUCK!!

LOL!!! YUP! i'm excited too!! hehee
i'll check out that greenkids site too!
There's loads of cloth nappy options lol. I've been buried in research for the last couple of weeks. No experience yet but if it helps, I am planning to use terry flats during the day (when we're at home and I can change at will) and the MCNs at night and when we go out, so I have invested in the higher absorbancy MCNs (bamboo fitteds and some of the high end all in ones, with boosters). The day time use only ones I have skipped unless I get jack of terry flats and want to switch to MCNs full time. I've ordered trial packs of baby beehinds bamboo fitteds and the greenkids anytimes with boosters so we'll see if they do the job for us :)
re liners - I've got some fleece liners (mixture of micro and polar I think) which I'll be using. Going to invest in some flushable ones too for going out.

Nah the Ittis wont be enough ....
Well they wouldnt be for my boys ... Never trialled them with Boof but they wouldnt have ever held for nites with him. At one stage I was using 2 disposables with a nite nappy over the top to hold him ... Luckily he is now finally getting drier of a nite as he gets older & being TT through the day.
On G they are lucky to make it 3hrs with him so I wouldnt dare trial a nite lol. I find them the most annoying out of our stash as they never last as long & I think thats because of the cut ... Great that they are so trim but I think for us with G being such a heavy fast wee'er they just cant keep up.
I suggest investing in a few good nite nappies ... Some will do fine with a GK's with the bamboo & microfibre insert whereas others will need something more heavy duty.
For G we vary between a BBB with the standard large & small insert with a bamboo prefold on the outside under woolies ... I love woolies for nite especially come winter & using longies. Keeps them all snug as a bug ! Summer rocks too when out cause they just have their funky little shorties on keeping their bum nicely breathable.
Otherwise we use GK's but a special nite time pocket called a Dreamytime which are only now available on special order at certain times ( sign up for their newsletter ;) ) Its a fleece pocket & once boosted right which is a bamboo insert plus 2 boosters & a microfibre insert for us it lasts us 10hrs no dramas.
When he was smaller we used to use Very Baby Simply Nites ... Oh how I loved these !!!!! I would get more but our stash is errr rather large so ummm yeah DP will kill me :o
ETA : Sorry I forgot
Flushable liners are something I would suggest especially for when out & about ... Makes removal of poo sooo much easier ! But polar or microfleece are brilliant also you just gotta get it off which is harder if bubs is b/f or poo's like my DS2 !!!! But you can invest in a Little Squirt or have a 'special' spatula for the job lol !
No soaking ... At all !!!! Remove poop throw in bucket ready to wash on wash day !
The other good thing about the fleece liners is that they wick the moisture away from baby's bum and keep it much drier.

I have Ittis that use to be great for night time, no leaking nothing, but now they are getting on the smaller side, they are no good for nights.
My DD is 11 months old 9kg (just) and has size M ittis, great for day time but think we need the size bigger for night because of the cut, if you boost them too much they just leak out of the edges if that makes sense.
I am loving BBH magicalls for night, i boost them with a bamboo insert. I like the new ones with the snaps too, i got the minky ones so they have a pocket to boost aswell. I also have just got some greenkids which i am really happy with so far.
Cottonbottom has some good reviews and specials too if you wanna check out there site. I got my minkee magicals for $20 from there with an extra night booster included.
