hi you lovely cloth gurus - I need some of your wisdom.
I have some cloth nappies (bam bams and tots bots bamboozles) that I am using on my 3 1/2 week old ds (along with sposies). My dh is concerned at the amount of wetness that remains in contact with ds's skin - is this a problem and is there anything I can do about this?
I guess I'd also like to know how frequently I should be changing a cloth bum. We currently change at every feed and ds sleeps most of the time between feeds. I don't really want to wake him to change him, if that makes sense.
I really want to make cloth work, so I'd really appreciate your advice. Thanks in advance :D

theres no problem with it at all
if hes that worried get yourself some fleece liners and that will stop it
i'd be more concerned about the chemicals from sposies coming in contact with the skin :barf:

i found i def changed cloth alot more then disp- but also thats me i wanted him to have a dry bum thats why i choose cloth so i would change more often.
i changed i guess every feed and when i felt him wet, i used liners as well which helped and he also got lots of nappy free time.
changed before sleep, afer sleep after feed it just goes on and on. use a barrier cream to as this also protects bum.

creams apart from paw paw cream shouldnt be used with MCN
they cost the nappy and make them repel the water

Grace is right. I have been told that you can use either material or flushable nappy liners between bub and the MCN to protect the nappy. Otherwise the product build up will make the nappies leak earlier.

I havent used them..but I have heard of things called dry liners. think you can get them from natureschild.com.au?? will have to double check address.
My DS sometimes gets a little rashy, if nappy is on a bit long.I give him long nappy free time everyday (works well in this heat!!) and use paw paw ointment or 'magic stick' if he gets a small rash.
Otherwise, it never seems to bother my bub if he is a bit wet.
He also now goes the night with out a change till about 4:30 (so from 7 - 4:30) and I use a double insert to absorb more liquid.
