HI,
I have heard a lot of success stories from women using clomid. Im in the same boat as you, I am starting clomind for the first time next cycle but I am doing IVF.

I have a sheet from the clinic that says some side effects include hot flushes, nausea, sore boobs, and multiple pregnancies. :flowerz:

I am 7 weeks pregnant with my first baby from my first cycle of clomid. So yep it worked for me.

Side effects .... I had mood swings like you wouldnt believe, a 5 day migrain which i could shake and a ill feeling in my tummy. Oh and I couldnt sleep, I didnt sleep for almost 5 days.

Many women experience different side effects though.

jacobie, I just finished my 2nd round of Clomid, I experienced a major meltdown emotionally on day 3 of clomid both last month and this month. Was weird as it was just out of the blue and for no reason! I also suffered a headache for atleast 5 days straight.

Goodluck, I hope it does the trick for you.

I was on clomid for 4 cycles i ovulated once. If you take it at night just before bed it's not as bad but side effects include
headaches/migraines
mood swings
dizziness
dried up cervical mucous
thinning of the lining
hot flushes
high temps

that's all i can remember off the top of my head, i experienced the migraines, hot flushes, and hight temps.

Why are you considering clomid?
you have to see a Gyno or a FS i don't know if gp's can prescribe it. You would need tests first they don't tend to give it to people who ovulate on their own unless it's a last resort like Craftymum who has been ttc for a while and is a trial before IVF.
Generally clomid is used for women who have PCOS.

I am on my first cycle with clomid at the moment. I expected all or at least some of the symptoms that ringneck listed, but got none. The 2 things that I noticed were different were (maybe TMI) heaps of CM and a high sex drive around O. O with clomid was on CD15, last cycle without clomid was CD23.
Pretty sure clomid has to be prescribed by a FS or gyno.

Jacobie, my GP discussed Clomid with me too as a thought but he couldnt prescribe it and referred me off to my Obgyn who then referred me off to a Fertility Specialst who prescribed the Clomid as a last try before IVF. Obgyns can prescribe it though too but as Ringneck mentioned a lot of testing has to take place prior to get a pattern on if or when you ovulate etc.

Primarily it is used for women who dont consistantly ovulate, or ovulate poorly therefore have low egg quality. Clomid can help you produce nice ripe follicles that inturn help you produce a better quality egg.

You can only do a certain amount of cycles of it though before you have to have a break - not sure why, but I am doing 4 cycles. Some women can do up to 5 or 6.

As I ovulate consistently I am only on a half dose 25mg as its only to try and help produce a better quality egg. If I was on a std dose there would be a chance of hyperstimulisation which is dangerous, and also I dont want to risk multiples.

If your not charting that would be my first recommendation as your Gyno or FS will want to see what your body is doing each month and will probably get you to have a CD21 Blood tests for a couple of months to check your progesterone/ovulation levels.

Goodluck! Its not scarey, but exciting to be actively trying to do something that might help :)

Hi everyone,

I've just seen my OB/GYN about ttc for #1 (first visit), and he has given me a prescription for Clomid. Am on CD9 now, so will start it next cycle. Have been ttc for 7 mths, do not have PCOS - its just to increase chances with ovulation. Doc thinks it should do the trick (am getting tests done too just in case its something else).

Hopefully don't get those side effects! When I asked the doc about side effects, he mentioned than I may be more hormonal - DH was next to me and seemed truely scared! LOL He also mentioned possibility of twins - bring it on. :)

Fingers crossed it helps!

Warm wishes,
onedaymum

Hi Jacobie! I would agree 100% with Lisa (Craftymum). I tried clomid for two months but I didn't get pregnant (I have a prescription for more, but I don't think it's right for me). I didn't get the headaches, but it did dry up CM and there were mood swings. I did, however, have very obvious niggles and pains when I ovulated so it helped pin-pointing the days for BD!

I personally don't think it's a good idea if you are ovulating normally. It's just standard procedure for FS to give you the drugs first before getting you to start assisted conception procedures such as IUI or IVF.

If you have problems with your cycle, or are not ovulating properly, then definitely get some tests done first with a specialist. It might turn out that there's an issue is with your partner's sperm, in which case clomid is not going to help.

Hi Jacobie

This cycle will be my first on Clomid. Im a bit nervous about the side effects but feel its a positive step. I charted for 6 months first to get a pattern - kind of for O and blood tests. My blood tests werent to bad and I was Og but just not well and spotting from 7DPO. Definitely get your partners sperm count etc to make sure it wont hold things up once you start. Good luck let me know how you go. Im only CD1 so will start in two days.

How is everyone coping with the hormonal side effects of Clomid? More - how is everyone's DH coping with them on Clomid?? :) My DH is a little concerned!! Don't know why - I'm sure I'm not that scary!! LOL

My hubby thinks Clomid is worse than pregnancy for the hormones but given in the end with a laparoscopy it worked for us he is happy now :P

Princessmummy it may be worth discussing with an OBGYN as if not clomid there are perhaps other options such as a laparoscopy, I note you have had two children and they do recommend a lap in a number of cases where you are having issues with secondary infertility (getting pg with second or higher bub). I found it was a relief to discuss it and have a plan and I had been trying for six months when I got my referral. If you are not ovulating regularly then Clomid may be an option but there are other options and you need them to figure out the best one for you based on the results of the testing they do. Wish you all the best hon!
