View Full Version : Looking for mum's groups in Brisbane (Paddington)
Hi,
we've just moved up from Sydney and looking to find out about any playgroups or mum's groups in my area which is west side of Paddington. Don't have car access at the moment so it would need to be walkable or bus-able!
Would love to hear from any groups out there who might have space for a 5 month old. I also have a 4 year old, who hopefully (fingers crossed) should be going to pre-school soon!

meeper,
I found the one I go to through the child health clinic. There is a clinic at Paddington. They usually start with a few meetings at the clinich on various topics and then branch out to meet at people's houses or coffee places. They then meet back at the clinich every few months to meet with the child health nurse. This is where you can also go for all of your immunisations for free. Good luck:thumbsup:
Hi meeper,
I'm in Paddington too!! We should meet for a coffee!!!
I didn't have much luck finding a mums group either....altho I wasn't really all that pro-active.....
There is a meet up of Bub Hub mums in Brisbane on Wednesday morning, I'll PM you the details if you'd like?? its at a central location.
hi thanks for that, was going to go to the meet up, but my older one is starting pre-school this week, and want to stay close by to make sure it goes okay!
will try and get to the next one.
i phoned the clinic but they said you can only usually get into a group when the baby is 5-6 weeks old. which is what i did in sydney, but that doesnt work if you move home!
oh well, if you do ever fancy that coffee, drop us a PM!
Hi,
There are a few different playgroup options but I'm only telling you from memory so don't quote me on anything - things change quickly around here!!!
I'm sure Suncorp Stadium has a playgroup, this is a vague thought though....
Lady Cilento resource centre is in Bardon (just west of Paddo) and they have playgroups etc... The also have a drop in group - Wednesdays I think. I haven't been to the one in their new location but used to go to there when they were in Charlotte street. They were quite good.
C and K have a crackerjacks playgroup, check out their website, from memory there is one in Paddo area.
Finally if you call the playgroups Australia they can put you in contact with a number of groups in the local area (depending on you availability).
Hope this helps,
Leanne
Hi Meeper,
I have been trying to join a mothers group also for awhile now.
I go to the Keperra Health Clinic for the baby information sessions that they hold. I met a few mothers who have branched off and formed their own mother's group but unfortunately the time and day they meet isn't suitable to me.
You should still be able to go along to the Health Clinic and participate in the information sessions for example I am attending a session this Friday at Keperra on 4-6mth old development and in July I am attending a session on introducing baby to solids.
My solution to meet other mums and babies has been to join up Mummy and Me yoga classes conducted by www.yogababy.com.au. They hold classes in Paddington on a Wednesday afternoon between 1-2:30pm for $15per class.
At least this way my ds 4mths gets to regularly meet babies and I get out of the house.
If you want to catchup for coffee some time PM me, I live in Bardon so pretty close. Only day not suitable for me at this stage is a Friday.
Before I forget if you visit www.playgroup.com.au they have a search function where you can look for a playgroup near you. You can enter the range of how far you would travel eg. 4km and the website provides info on the playgroup location, contact details, day, times, cost and whether they have vacancies.
I don't know how good the playgroup Monterossi Bambino is in Moreton St, Paddington I have left 2 messages now with them and they still haven't returned my calls. So I am still searching for a playgroup to join.
Cheers

I had the same problem getting into a group as there weren't any vacancies when my little one was first born. I asked them for the number of a couple of ladies in the groups around the same age as my girl and then simply emailed then and asked if I could come along to their meetings (ie coffee and gossip sessions) My baby is a bit younger than the others but it has been a life saver. I know a lot of church groups have playgroups throughout the week also. My sister in law went to one even though she doesn't attend church and found that many of them didn't but simply wanted to meet other mums. That may be an option.

Hi,
Thanks for starting this thread, as I was just talking about Mothers Groups vs. Play Groups with a college of mine, and she said that she found Mothers Groups invaluable! She recommended I find one.
The MIL works at the Child Health Centre down the main drag at paddo, so I will give that one a bit of a wide berth, but I was interested in Montesorri education, so if you are into that kind of philosophy, then that would be one to check out. Lady Cliento sounds good too, so I think I will try to book in now while I can, otherwise I might have to wait some time after our DD is born.
If anyone wants to meet up, just PM me and I will give you my phone number, email, whichever suits.
