Hiya,

I'm just wondering what other people experiences are of 3 year old kinda. My daughter is getting bored (she's only 2.3 yrs) and I was thinking if she went to kinda then at least she'd be amused. We go to playgroup once a week and a dance class for another day a week. She's always been sociable and doing activities previously so couldn't she only benefit from kinda?

Just wanna know what you think

I am boycotting 3 y.o. kinder. As requested by our local kinder, I was down there, one of the first in line to enrol my little boy and one of the first to return the forms, yet I was put on the waiting list whilst children whose mothers had submitted the forms long after me got in (I'm sure the kinder people had their own preferences, friends of the family, etc), and so I decided not to bother with it anymore.

Putting all that aside, I asked my son's childcare centre (he goes one day a week)whether there was much difference between what they offer 3 year olds and what the kinder offers and they said there was no difference (they are connected wtih the kinder through the council, so they are unbiased). Of course, it costs a little more, but on the upside, you also have your little one in care for the full day, rather than 2.5 hours at a time. I'm not sure about you, but I think 2.5 hours is not enough for any child to settle anywhere, and definitely not enough for a mum to do anything constructive during their kiddie's absence.

I'm staying with the one day a week childcare.

I'm in NSW so I dont know what its like for the other states but in sydney pre-school is for 3-5 year olds and they must be toilet trained and bring their own lunch and the hours are usually 9am-3pm.

Child care is usually longer hours (anywhere from 7am-6pm) and food is usually provided and the 3-5 year olds don't have to be toilet trained.

My daughter is 28 months and started going to child care this year for 1 day a week. She cried at first but now loves it because she has so much fun. I am thinking of sending her 2 days a week next year just because she loves it so much.

Hi,
I have had my son in a 3-5yr Kindy since he turned 3 last October, It has really benefitted us both and can't imagine how i would have done without it! He goes for one morning session and one full day a week, from day one he has loved it, being an outgoing social child he seemed to settle right in, he has learnt so much and loves to be around the other kids.
I cannot recommend the experience enough but of course you need to do all the regular checks and find the right place for your little one, I wish you luck and hope you find the experience a happy one!
