View Full Version : Help OSFM pockets on new baby.
I've got some OSFM pockets and bought some mini microfibre inserts so I can use them on bub. They leaked straight away. Is it the insert or the fit of the nappy? She is 4kg and long it seemed to leak out the back though not the legs which I thought it might.

It might be that the inserts and the nappies need 2 or 3 more washes without powder to increase their absorbancy. When you change her how wet do they feel? Just wondering if the wee is running over them and out the back. Also you might need to try positioning the inserts further to the back than the front of the nappy.
I have found that bamboo inserts are the best for absorbancy- it amazes me how much bamboo can hold.
I have never used microfibre - but I thought that the wee tended to flow through it so they felt dry against bubs skin (sorry if I'm wrong here), so maybe they are just directing the wee out - does this make sense?
Goodluck!

my microfibre pockets do this also -leaking thorugh the back.
I ind its when they're pretty full. I think the reason they do this is because microfibre, although it absorbs a lot of moisture (more so than bamboo I believe) the problem is that when it is compressed (ie baby is lying on the microfibre) the moisture will leak out of it.
Which is why the best nappies I have tried seem to be the ones with both microfibre and bamboo as the microfibre absorbs a lot of the moisture, when compressed it seems to leak into the bamboo and therefore the nappy doesn't leak. If that makes sense??
So yeah I think your solution would be to stuff some bamboo in behind the microfibre and you should be ok.
Thanks for the replies.
I thought as much I've got the inserts that came with the pockets which are hemp or bamboo and microfibre but they are so big and I read on a couple of nappy store sites that to use the mini micrfibre inserts when they are young for a trimmer fit. Can't see the point if they don't work. I've just tried one again and it lasted two hours this time and that one had another wash. Oh well I'll use them as boosters on my boy and Amelia when she is older.
Thanks again.

I totally agree. I add a bamboo booster and find this helps a lot.

We use a bamboo trifold wrapped around a microfibre booster for overnight or longer wear. Think of when you squeeze your microfibre cleaning cloth, lots of water runs out.

The first question to ask is "is the insert soaked when it leaks or is it still dryish?". If the insert is still dryish then it's more likely to be a fit or stuffing technique/size issue. If the insert is soaked then you might have a heavy wetter on your hands if it soaks very quickly so try adding a booster. If it soaks after a few hours then it's normally not an issue as most newborns get changed that often anyway. You could add a face washer to boost to see if that helps :)
