Does anyone know about the returning to work payment from centerlink? I am returning to work and when I first applied and for FTB A & B ( only 90 bucks a fortnight but it all helps) they said let us know when you go back as you get some kind of assistance if you are returning to work from maternity leave. When I called them the other day they didn't know what I was talking about...does anyone else know?

I was under the impression that you needed to inform them of your return to work, so that that became a bit of a cut off point - so if you'd received extra assistance during the leave period, they didn't take it back as an over-payment, but were aware that it would average out over the financial year

Not sure if that even made sense typed!! and I could be entirely wrong, but that was the impression I got with DD (but then none of that ended up mattering with me because between 1/2 pay maternity leave, 1/2 pay long service leave and school holidays I didn't have any unpaid leave, so there was no real financial difference to all of my estimates)

Are you registered as a job seeker? Coz when i returned to work i was told i was only able to get assistance if i was a registered job seeker (im not) and that it was stiff bikkies that i got a job of my own accord instead. Charming huh

There is a form called "advice of return to work ,income estimate and /or a payment choice "(FA056.0807)that u need to get from centrelink that asks about when u stopped and returned to work after bubs and that gives u an extra payment ,i only found out about it when i got a very helpful person from centrelink on the phone one day.And I am not a job seeker i have always worked and not even eligible for part a and b all the time but i needed to be registered with centerlink.Or you can submit the info online at www.familyassist.gov.au (http://www.familyassist.gov.au) .

They also give you Working credits that reduces the amount they take from you for the first $1000 a fortnight or something like that. I didn't pay much attention.

Thanks for the tip, the form says:

Parents who return to work for the FIRST time after the birth of a child or caring for a child who has come into their care, may be entitled to the maximum rate of Family Tax Benefit Part B for the financial year period before returning to work. Eligibility for this extra assistance will be calculated when Family Tax Benefit payments are assessed.

So looks like you can potentially get maximum FTBB which is $128.80 pf. for the fin year.

This is sounding like what I was originally told. I am not registered as a job seeker - I am a nurse so jobs for us are there for the taking - not sure they would even take nurses on the job seeking list!!!
Will call again and mention the above - thanks!
