Just wondering what sleep patterns babies of 10 months to 1 year should have. My DD has been a bit out of routine for a couple of weeks.
Her normal day is like this - wakes at 6:30. morning sleep at 9:30 and afternoon sleep at 2:00 (depending on how long morning sleep is) she usually has one small sleep and one long one.
The challenge i have atm is that it takes her soooo long to settle in the afternoon - about 1hour to 1.5 hrs. :banghead: She chooses this time to do a poo which I think has become her way of getting out of bed! I just change her and put her straight back down but she still plays around in her cot for ages! I have tried putting her to bed later (thinking she's not tired at 2) I have also tried earlier (thinking she might be getting over tired) I don't know what to do. But I do know she still needs her day sleeps (and I need a break) otherwise she won't eat dinner and goes completely crazy!
Has anyone had issues with this and what did you do?

i've just been talking about my 11 month old DD. she is now drifting somewherre between one and two sleeps per day. the first sleep in now up to 3 hours so the second, late arvo, sleep sometimes doesn't happen. i have been surprised by this because my DS didn't drop his second sleep until 16 months. DD's usual routine is changing. normally she only stays awake for 3 - 3.5 hours, but yesterday she was up for ages, and the last sleep finished at 6.15pm.

i wish i could help, but my own routine is gone all pear shaped and i'm just seeing what she does next. one thing is for sure; DD is nothing like my older DS in sleeping patterns.
i'm looking forward to seeing the responses to this thread.

My advice would be....drop the morning sleep and bring the afternoon sleep earlier...so it could be anytime from 11.30am to 12.30pm to start....you will find that as they get older you can push the start of the sleep time a bit later
Our routine was...
wake up about 6.30am - 7am
nap time 9am to 9.45am or a bit later
lunch time 12pm
nap time 12.30 to 1pm for about 1.5hours

our routine now is

wake up 6.30am to 7am
out and about in the morning, lunch at 11.30am (ish)
nap time 11.45am or thereabouts for about 2.5hrs

i would prefer if DD had only one sleep per day , but i'm not sure if she's ready to cope yet. ever since the day sleeps have started to change a little, she has been waking more through the night, whereas normally she wouldn't. hope it all settles down.

mysonroger....could you shorten her morning sleep to say 45mins and then give her a 1.5-2hr afternoon sleep after lunch? what time does she go to bed...6.15pm is quite late waking up for an afternoon sleep maybe that is why she is not sleeping well at night time?
