View Full Version : do you have routine meal times and cook?
i really struggle with being bothered :p cooking, i try to make DS nice dinners that he will eat, like a homemade hamburger patty with a sauce smiley face and assorted things on his plate like cheese, veg, fruit, whatever looks attractive.
BUT...... i just feel like it is a waste of time moslty as 90% off his plate goes in the bin or back in the fridge and i try to give it to him again :banghead: sometimes i just can't be bothered trying.
i just can't be stuffed cooking because he doesn't eat hardly anything and then i have to eat what i have cooked for him, like sausages or whatever as i try to to cater for his tastes.
i let him sit at his little table in front of the tv as he seems to eat more when wathing tv as doesn't notice what he is putting in his mouth, and i sit on the breakfast bar, the only time we sit at the table is when i have people over. i think this is probably a bad habit now formed.
what do you do?
DS will eat a whole mcdonalds cheeseburger tho and usually once a week we both get a happy meal (so he gets 2 toys) when i get home late from work :o as a treat.
im the same. because of money and waste i just make whatever Ella will eat and give her that. She wont eat vegies or salad things but she has heaps of fruit, meat, cheese, yogurt and just recently those cans of tuna with cottage cheese so i figure she is getting all the vitimins she needs. Sometimes ill be sneaky and get some filo pastry and put leftover stirfry and some cheese to conceal the vegies and wrap it up and put in oven for 15 mins and she loves it. Another idea its to make simple egg mixture and add whatever you like and put into muffin trays to make mini quiches thats quick and easy to.

i found the same thing, i also cater for the terror and not myself
i found tryin to eat at the same time everyday, we get up at 6 go for a walk and home by 7, have breakfast than, lunch at 12 everyday, and tea at 6pm, if its a second late he gets cranky
i had to cut out his snacks in between, which i wasnt happy about, but it has work, he eats about 80/90% of it, which is great for a 17 month old

my DD eats early and i usually cook her meals once a month then freeze them and get them out each day- she loves vegies though and is basically a vegetarian by her own choice(wont touch meat for some reason), Then i eat later whatever i want but usually its never a 'proper' meal cos i just cant be bothered cooking for one.

I do a combination of both and find that this works well.
If we're having vegies than I'll cook him a sausage (loves sausages), fish fingers or chicken nuggets and me an Ingham breast chicken. That's a quick and easy meal as it only takes 20min in the oven for the meats and 3min in the microwave for the vegies (I use those steam bag things).
I also love quiche and home made pizza.
In the winter I cook stir-frys which DS doesn't predominately eat so I cook up a batch of spagetti, freeze it in individual serves and he has that if I'm having a stirfry.
Every now and again, I might go through the recipie book to find a new receipe or something but that's only when I am feeling adventurous and not worn out on the weekends.
DS and I usually eat whereever. We have a table and chairs outside so sometimes we eat outside, we have an inside dining table and sometimes eat at that (very rarely, usually when DP is over for dinner) or we eat in front of the telly. I don't really do this because he eats more or anything, but just because I get tired, and I get lazy.

Yep I'm the same - thanks for posting this! I try to cook up a few meals like bolognaise sauce, shepherds pie, one pot wonder etc. and freeze them. But some nights she will eat and then the next time I serve the same thing she says 'don't like it' !!! I figure she will eat if she is hungry enough so I try not to worry about it.
She also has a little chair and table and will eat with a Dora DVD or suchlike on. I know this is a bit lazy on my part but it works.
Pet peeve when eating out though - why does every childs meal at a cafe/restaurant seem to come with chips?!

We dont really have a set time but i do try to have dinner cooked before 6. Half the time i get sick of cooking because tyler does'nt eat it. She is a good eater but never seem to wanna eat what i cook. Most nites she will have custard, yoghurt, devon, cheese for dinner:rolleyes:
