I have always put DD & now DS into their basinette/cot to sleep on their sides. The CHN gave me SIDS info on our 1st routine checkup the other day and it advises not to put bubs to sleep on his tummy (aware of that) or onto his side as there is a greater risk of SIDS.
Straight to the point - I'm confused as several MW's in hospital put DS on his side to sleep and I've tried several times to put him on his back but he usually gags or starts coughing as he's brought up some milk, and of course I'm scared he could choke by keeping him on his back.
How does everyone else put their bubs to sleep? DS is now 18 days old and he sleeps much better on his side ...
I have a thing called a safe and sound snuggle time it's for side sleeping babies holds them in position. Eliza sleeps on her side all the time very rarely her back and in the early days she was a tummy sleeper! She has good head control so I am not worried :D

I use one too ... that's a bit of a relief, anyway! Thanks
First, congratulations on your new baby!
I have always put my babies on their backs but as they get older they tend to roll over onto their side, so whatever is comfortable...

I used to put my baby on her side to sleep. She always had good head control, and she was very colicky so she'd scream if she was on her back.
I used to always put DD on her back to sleep with her head tilted to the side a little. But when she went through a stage of throwing up all the time, i used to put her on her side with a tightly rolled up towel behind her so that she wasn't completely on her side , but enough. I know this prob wasn't the safest thing to do, but hey, that's what I did.

just do what you feel comfortable to do. there are other risk factors for sids. the only way my baby would sleep was on her tummy. i used to walk around and around with her hanging face down over my arm (she is too big now) to get her to sleep. if i put her to sleep on her side or back she rolls over to her tummy. i used to think that putting them on their backs, especially if they were a bit chucky after a feed, was silly so i used to put her on her side.
just do what you think is right.
