Hi everyone! I just posted in the Sunshine Coast section and am not sure if it was the right spot to put this so thought I'd post it here as well (mods feel free to delete or merge the post from whichever spot is incorrect.)
Hi to any BubHub mums who live in or around Gympie.
My family and I will be moving there from Sydney - probably some time in the next month, as my DH just got a job there.
I just wanted to firstly say hi to you all, and also ask a few questions about the area.
My little girl has just started kindy here this year. I know the school system is a bit different up in Qld as they have prep instead of kindy (is that right?). I'd like to know what schools are good in Gympie and which ones we shouldn't bother with. We haven't got a house there yet, so I'm not sure where abouts in Gympie we'll be.
Next question is about daycare centres and playgroups (for my little boy - 15 months) - basically I have the same query about them - which ones are good or not so good?
If anyone has anything else about Gympie they can tell me that would be terrific.
Hopefully I'll get to meet some of you when we move there soon.
Thanks!
Ab:smiliedance:yay moving to Gympie:) good luck in your responses:goodvibes:

Hey there
We live a bit inland from Gympie but I go there to grocery shop! One of my best friends lives there.
Just thought I would point out that your DD wont be eligible to start prep unil next year...the QLD cutoff is June 30. she would be able to go to Pre-prep which is usually 3 days a week.
My friend has her kids at the Catholic school in Gympie and couldn't be happier. Another friend has her kids at Jones Hill State School and also loves it....I have heard many good things. There are heaps of schools in Gympie and the only one I have heard negative reports about it Cooloola Christian College.
There is a good daycare centre run by someone I know right in the centre of town. I will find out the name for you.
For a small town, (well, it is big compared to where I live!!) there are some really cool shops. Mary Street has some really funky little shops and nice cafes.

Hi Katie, thanks for replying!
Thanks for the school info - I knew it was a bit different with the cut-off but it's good to hear which schools are good or not. Aliyah was born only one day after the cut-off, (technically she missed it by 4 hours LOL!), so we will see if we can talk one of the schools into taking her into prep anyway. She has already started school down here so it would be a shame if she had to go back to preschool again.
We'll hopefully be there before March, so once we have settled it'd be good to catch up with you and anyone else in the area, especially seeing we will know absolutely no-one!

Hiya.....I had lunch with my friend in Gympie yesterday and the childcare centre that her friend owns is called 'Kids on Carlton.' Everyone I know with kids there have been really happy. It's funny isn't it....my Ds2 is just a week older than your DD and he has just started prep because he is just before the cutoff!
My friend yesterday was again raving about how good the catholic school is for their boys, they are really impressed...It is called, um, Saint something.... Her middle child has just started prep there.
Chat to you soon xoxo

Thanks for that Katie. We will be leaving Sydney on Thursday and will arrive in Gympie next week sometime, so hopefully once we have settled I can catch up with you (and anyone else!) for a cuppa :D
