hey im up for my gd test on thursday and i was wondering if anyone can tell me what the risks r of getting it with my 5th preg? i havent had it with any others but i did weigh way more at the begining of this preg then i have with the others.. does that increase my risk? i would rather not have it done if there is little or no risk cause it makes me feel like ****.

Yes, gaining weight CAN increase your risk just because your pancreas has to work harder to supply insulin to more tissues, just as gaining weight increases your risk of Type 2 Diabetes. Having said that, obviously not all GD mothers are overweight!
Since this is your 5th child, if you haven't previously developed GD chances are you probably won't with this pregnancy either BUT the risk is always there in any pregnancy which is why it's important to screen every time. Yes it does make you feel terrible but it's only a few hours out of a day and it may end up saving your bubs life if you DO have GD.
I am preg with my 5th......Had GD test and was positive.I didnt have it with my other kids. Lucky they found it because it was not controlled with diet so am on insulin injections 4 times a day....Better to be safe than sorry i guess.

My sis had it with her 5th pregnancy (m/c #4 at 10weeks). She was also carrying more weight at the start of that pregnancy too. She ended up being insulin controlled and induced at 38weeks with bubs being on a drip for 24hrs due to low blood sugar level.
She thought she might have it before she had the test....lots of peeing, constantly thirsty (more so than in her other 'normal' pregnancies) and light-headedness.
hi, i got diagnosed with it yesterday. this is my 6th baby and i didnt have it whith any of my others either.
