Hi,

Just wondering what the best pain relief for me is while BF? My back is all out and I am having some treatment for it but running after 3 kids all day doesn't give it much chance to rest! I find that I do need something to help with the pain but wondering what is going to have the most effect on me and least on DS3 (only 4mths and so exclusively BF often!)

Thanks

If you see your doctor and get him or her to advise you on what will help your back you can then run it by Mother Safe. Mother Safe is part of the Australian Breastfeeding Association and they can tell you which drugs are and aren't ok to take while breastfeeding. The contact number is: Sydney (02) 9382 6593 or 1800 647 848. I think they only operate during business hours.

I hope this helps.

I suffer also from terrible back ache. Try alternating with hot water bottle/wheat bag and icepacks.
I have also used deep heat.
Rest is hard with 3 little ones, but do try and get some.

Hi there, I live with chronic pain from permanent spinal damage and was on codeine. But now that I am breast feeding cannot take any strong pain relief. The strongest thing the doctors told me I can take is the over the counter panadol plus a small amount of codience; i think its called panadeine. It doesn't really work that well but I have no choice if i want to keep breast feeding which i do then I have to put up with the pain. Wheat bags also help me when I am in a lot of pain. Hot weather though, you don't really feel like using a wheat bag. The doctor also tells me not to carry baby around; to use the pram most of the time. But I love my little baby and want to hold her; so I am naughty and put up with the pain so I can hug her lots.
