We are looking to maybe move & now that I'm an off campus student of UNE we figure this area to be a good one :D
So tell me about the area if you will. Good & bad areas, what is there for fun, shopping, schools, weather & most importantly JOB PROSPECTS!!!! DH will do pretty much anything, atm he's working in sheetmetal & sand blasting.
So ladies & gents, tell me more :)

I have only really just passed through a few times ...
From my understanding unemployment is rather high ... I could be completely wrong mind you !
It is a lovely town & most of the locals we have spoken to when staying overnite have always been nice, helpful etc ....
My only issue is that is gets damned cold in winter .... Really cold !
Otherwise I only have one thing to say ...
:crying::crying::crying::crying::crying::crying:

Cold in winter sounds like bliss!!!! Looking at the weather it looks like i gets up to only (:laughing: ONLY) 30 in summer & down to about 0 in winter. I know it was snowing when I went through there years ago.

I lived there for three years as an internal student at UNE. It's an absolutely gorgeous place! It has rather an "English" feel in places and four very distinct seasons. Autumn is spectacular, particularly along the road that runs up the hill that the uni is on. You'll know what I mean when you see it at the res schools.
Speaking of schools, there's a lot of them in Armidale. State, private and boarding.
The city centre itself is surprisingly "un-hick" for a country town. Tamworth is bigger but feels a LOT more rural than Armidale. Beardy St Mall (the main street) had a lot of cafes and trendy shops when I lived there.
Armidale also has a lot of pubs :yes:
Shoppingwise... they had all the major ones when I was there - Coles, Woolies, K Mart, Target etc. There's a two screen cinema that was, at the time, owned by the uni. Might be still.
I don't know what the employment prospects are like down there now, it's been a few years, but I was able to pick up part time work reasonably easily at the time.
I think the best way to judge for yourself it to wait until your first res school and take the family down for a visit. See what you think :)
