Hi, I'm 28 weeks and for the past several weeks have been suffering from pins and needles sensation in my hands at night. It is painful enough to wake me throughout the night and has definitely increased in intensity over the past couple of weeks. My doctor does not think it is anything to be concerned about and believes it is to do with sleeping positions creating pressure points which I agree, it probably is. But how can you control how you sleep?! Is there anyone else out there who has been experiencing similar symptons? Any suggestions on how to deal with it?

Yes, I'm having huge problems with this it began about 6 weeks ago.
Both arms from the shoulder down are naum when I wake, its not sleeping position with me.
Now fingers on my right hand stay numb all day.

I'm having physio and it looks like I'll have to wear splints on both hands when I sleep.

Carpel tunnel syndrome can occur during pregnancy and with me its a combo of that and issues with pinched nerves in my neck.

I would recommend you be assessed by a physio.
With me it began with only a little numbness and pins and needles which went away during the day, now it stays all day in my fingers.
...not fun!

Thanks for your response. You're right - it's no fun at all! I didn't really connect the pins and needles to carpel tunnel syndrome but now I've done some research I realise that's what I have. Thanks for your advice, I hope the physio gives you some relief.

I have had carpal tunnel and have had the operation. It's a horrible and painful thing try the physio and brace it holds your hand in a better position so pain and pins & needles are not as bad. You may find it will pass after your pregnancy.
Take care & all the best :flowerz:

Hi hon and I am feeling your pain! I to wake at night to pins and needles, numbnes and pain! I think its carpal tunnel with me which a physio at my work said is commmon in pregnancy! I have tried a splint but still wake up. I have tried the reccomended excersizes and alternate hot/cold baths and emersing the whole hand in water hot for 3 minutes then cold 30 seconds 3 times each ending in cold bath (as hot and cold as you can stand) this is if it is carpal tunnel. This has not helped me so am going to try accupuncture next or chiro! I am 22 weeks so am not to far behind you but cant bear to think of this for another 18 weeks! I hope you get relief soon but think what treatment you get depends on the diagnosis!

Hello!

Am 25 weeks and have been experiencing this for a month or so now. I asked my GP only this week and she says Carpel Tunnel also. She told me to try and elevate my hands when I sleep - easier said then done!

My fingers are puffy too, when I wake up it takes me a while to get them going, I cant make a fist easily when I first wake up.

I just try and move them as much as I can and once I get going I seem to be ok!

Good luck!

:)

Hi all,

I went and got wrist splints to wear at night and I have to say they have made a significant difference. No more pins and needles at night which is great. My hands/fingers still get a tingly numbness and my fingers feel swollen in the morning but no painful pins and needles.

Good luck everyone!
