DS is 5.5mths old and still using a 0-3mth teat size. I have tried several times to move him onto the 2-3mth size at least but milk goes in his mouth and back out the bottom, loosing about 50-100mls which at the end of the feed he cries for more. SO its back onto the 0-3mth size again.
But now he isnt finishing the bottle when using the 0-3mth size and cries if i take it away, I think he is getting tired of sucking so hard as it would be a smaller hole and gets tired so just gives up half way through the feed.

I have started supplementing the lost dribbled milk with solids and he seems to be happy with that. But when we are out it is difficult to do this as using this 2-3mth teat is so messy - milk everywhere!

Has anyone else had this trouble? Any advice on how to wean from small teat to next one successfully?!

It does take time and it does involve lots of wasted milk! It just takes them a little while to get used to the extra flow.... it's a pain, but if you persist he'll get the hang of it.

Have you thought of adding 1 or 2 extra holes to the small sized teat? That way it has a bit more milk flowing, but not so much that your DS is just dribbling it out again!

If it's any consolation my bubba is 5 months and still using newborn teats.... he's happy, I'm happy so I see no need to change, specially since they are rather expensive! If I want him to get a faster flow I'll jam a needle through the newborn teats! Also, I'm using Nurture Pure bottles and teats which seem to have a faster flow than others I've tried.
